The 2022-23 school year is officially underway at Rock Port Elementary! Our first day back to school was August 23 with 198 students preschool through sixth grade. We welcomed seven new students and seven new staff members to the Blue Jay family. New to our staff this year are Katarina Bennett, Danyal Coon, Melissa Comstock, Makayla Martin, Sarah Millsap, Robin Whiley, and Jayme Wood. We look forward to the talents they will bring to the building!
• Ms. Bennett is one of our 5th-6th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teachers.
• Ms. Coon is the other 5th-6th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher.
• Mrs. Comstock is our custodian.
• Ms. Martin is a paraprofessional in the elementary.
• Mrs. Millsap is our 1st grade teacher.
• Mrs. Whiley is a paraprofessional in the elementary.
• Mrs. Wood is teaching 4th grade.
In addition, we have some familiar faces in new places this year. Mrs. Tiffanie Gaines will be transitioning from high school business to elementary computers, Mrs. Waigand from 1st grade to special education, and Ms. Roup from 5th grade to kindergarten. Mrs. Hastert will be teaching 5th and 6th grade math and Mrs. Weber will be teaching 5th and 6th grade science. We look forward to the contributions they will continue to make!
There are a few schedule changes for the upcoming school year including a transition to the four day school week. Our school days will be Tuesday through Friday with Mondays off. There are four Mondays throughout the school year that we will attend (November 21, December 19, April 3, May 22). A complete school year calendar can be found on our district homepage. Elementary school hours are 8:00 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. The junior high and high school run a bit earlier, 7:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The staggered times have helped considerably in the shared high school/elementary parking lot at dismissal the first couple weeks of school. Hopefully that trend continues.
Upcoming events include: September 16 (1st quarter midterm), September 20 (After School tutoring begins), September 21 (Title 1 parent meeting, 5:30 p.m.), September 28 (Workout Wednesday), and September 30 (Energy Bus Assembly, Frozen Friday).
