Patricia Lynn Barrett Peterson, daughter of Virgil and Marjorie Barrett, was born on November 15, 1934, at home in Burlington Junction, Missouri. She entered into her eternal rest on July 21, 2022, at Queen Anne Nursing Home in Hingham, Massachusetts.
Her early life was spent in Northwest Missouri in Burlington Junction and Tarkio. Patty played the drums in high school and graduated in 1952. She won first prize in a magazine contest for her drawing. Patty attended college at Northwest Missouri State and Tarkio College.
She married David Peterson on October 29, 1952. They moved to the farm in Tarkio and she had her first child, a daughter, Andrea Lynn Peterson, in 1954. Later she moved to Tucson when David was in college and there she had her second child, David Coe Peterson, in 1958. Later in life, she married Bryce Johnson on June 17, 1990, and moved to a house in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Patty had a variety of jobs from waitress, babysitter, telephone operator, and high school secretary. She spent the majority of her life in Northwest Missouri and Southwest Iowa. She was well loved at the high school where she worked and many of David’s friends credit her with helping them to actually finish high school!
Patty had many hobbies and interests. She loved to sew and made all of Lynn’s clothes, including a coat, when she was young. She loved to garden and grow flowers, canned many vegetables from her garden, and often brought flower arrangements to the church. Patty was a member of the garden club and you can still appreciate her work in parks in Shenandoah. She was a talented painter. She volunteered often at the church, hospital, garden club, nursing home, and parks. Patty loved travelling and going to taco Tuesdays, and Fridays wine and pizza with her friends. She was a great dancer and spent lots of time on dance floors. She cherished her family and spent time laughing and having fun with her brother, Sonny, and sister, Helen, as well as her daughter and son and granddaughters.
Patty will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. A celebration of life service will be Friday, September 9, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, 200 W. Clarinda Avenue, Shenandoah. A reception will follow at the church.
