“No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” Luke 16:13 (NIV)

My wife and I were blessed with selling our home last July. We agreed to be faithful to paying a tenth to the Lord, by sharing that portion with some of the places and organizations that we feel God has touched us, and made a difference in our lives.

Our family thought we were being foolish, because we are both mature and seasoned folk and need to save our funds. We reminded them of their teachings in Sunday School, that you can not outgive the Lord. Many times in our 40-plus year marriage we have been tight on funds, and the Lord has supplied our needs in various wonderful ways.

We have been blessed in being able to pay it forward with this 10 percent, making a difference in people’s and organizations’ lives. We have recently had some financial challenges, and we are trying real hard to finish paying out the tenth no matter what comes our way.

Let us pray, “Generous God, all that I have is yours. Release my grip on what you have given, that I may live in the freedom you offer. Amen.” (These Days)
