October 17, 1947

• Farley’s Wonders defeated Moore’s Gas House Gang 32 to 0 in an all-star football game on Memorial Field last Friday night. Some folks wonder why it was called an all-star game, for little evidence of stardom was seen. Some thought the game was a preliminary practice stunt for next year’s 4-State Roundup and Clarence Moore said it must have been for Dale Wake rode him on the back in nearly every play.

• The year 1947 continues to be one of unusual weather conditions for on this 15th day of October, summer temperatures continue to hold on. There has been no frost yet and much of the extremely late corn is matured.

• N. F. Dragoo has a papaw bush in his backyard and the fruit is now ripe. He brought The Forum force a generous sample of the fruit this week.

October 19, 1972

• Mr. and Mrs. James Updegraff are in Fairfax visiting with her family, the O. C. Swackhamers. Leaving San Francisco last October, the Updegraffs took a world tour, visiting Hawaii, Samoi, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Bombay, London, New York, and Washington, D.C. They are visiting here and then will return to San Franciso.

• Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gamache and five children have recently moved here from California and are living in the former Marie Browning home. Mr. Gamache is a carpenter and is employed with a crew in Tarkio.

• The Fairfax Homecoming is underway. The king and queen will be crowned Friday at halftime of the game against the North Nodaway Mustangs. Queen candidates are Kathy Woods, Susan Norton, Kathy Muldrew, Pam Shaw, and Beri Wennihan. King candidates are Billy Hawkins, Jim Davis, Mike Hawkins, Mike Fisher, and Richard Hawkins.

• Enjoying the party which celebrated her 98th birthday Monday, October 16, Mrs. Leona Moore told everyone to be sure to come back next year to celebrate her 99th. Mrs. Moore is very alert for her age and enjoys reading daily newspapers as well as The Forum each week.

October 16, 1997

• Fairfax Bulldogs won their homecoming game against Nodaway-Holt 44-42 Friday night. The game was delayed for a period of time in the third quarter due to one of the Nodaway-Holt players breaking his leg. Following the game, Trudy Heitman and Dylan Sly were crowned homecoming queen and king.

• Over The Back Fence by Nancy Gaines: “The benefit for Danny Kemerling held Sunday was termed a great success with over 200 dinners being served. Danny is recuperating from heart surgery.” “Thought for the day… ‘when you stretch the truth, watch out for the snap back.’”

• Marion and Phyllis Ball of rural Skidmore, Missouri, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 4. They were married on that day in 1947 at Fairfax, Missouri.
