October 31, 1947
• Sixty years of marriage were celebrated Monday, October 27, by Mr. and Mrs. Horace P. Logan of Tarkio. More than 65 persons called at the Logan’s open house at the Coe residence to congratulate them. The couple was married on that date in 1887 at the Wadsworth home five miles east of Tarkio.
• Last Saturday, 24 members of the Tarkio Future Farmers of America and their advisor attended the American Royal in Kansas City. They arrived in time to see the Royal parade in downtown KC and then attended the Royal proper and had a good time.
• The Tarkio College board recognized the will of the late Agnes S. Thompson, Tarkio alumnus of 1908, in the leaving of her entire estate to the college.
• Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bolin have purchased from Mrs. Charles Huber the White Spot Cafe on Main Street.
• Postponement was made of the Tarkio-Hamburg football game last Friday when the Indians were informed that the field in Hamburg was under water.
November 2, 1972
• An excursion to Jake’s 66 service station October 25th culminated a community helpers unit for Tarkio kindergartners. Other helpers involved Dr. Crockett, the dentist, Jerry Ratliff, city police, and the Tarkio Fire Department.
• One hundred fifty ghosts and goblins turned out for the Tarkio Halloween parade Tuesday evening, despite drizzly weather.
• Miss Sue Davis is the featured C.O.E. student, who is employed at The Farmers and Valley Bank. Sue is a senior at Tarkio High School and works part-time at the bank.
• Woodrow Marrs was sworn in as Tarkio Postmaster by L.G. Pinger, officer in charge of the St. Joseph Sectional Center in a ceremony performed at the Tarkio Post Office.
• Patrick Hamilton’s mystery, “Angel Street,” is being presented at the Mule Barn Theatre in Tarkio.
October 30, 1997
• “Drugs don’t fly with me” was the theme of the Red Ribbon Week Poster Contest at Tarkio Elementary, sponsored by C.A.T. Twenty students were selected as winners.
• John Currie competed in the 1997 URA Finals in Columbia, Missouri, October 17-19, 1997, in the Bull Riding event. Overall, he won Reserve Bull Rider of the Year and Rookie of the Year. He will compete next at the IPRA Central Region Finals in Gordyville, Illinois. Other Tarkio competitors at the URA were Tifani Beason in Breakaway Roping and Matt Wennihan in Team Roping.
• Gerry Vawter, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Vawter of Westboro, Missouri, has been in Namji, Korea, starting up an industrial waste water treatment plant for the You Won Company.
• Two nationally recognized personalities – Bob Costas and Pat Oliphant – will be speaking at the Missouri Press Association Convention and Trade Show October 30-November 1 in St. Louis. Will Johnson, publisher of the Tarkio Avalanche and secretary of the Missouri Press Association, will be in attendance.
• Several beautification projects have taken place or will at businesses on Main Street, including the former Korner Kitchen, Sharlyn’s Beauty Den, J.F. Prather building, the Library building, The Pantorium, Friendly Boys Lumber Company, and Rogers Pharmacy.
