In what can only be described as a series of unfortunate events, Weston Klosek runs toward the end zone after the ball had been fumbled twice by Platte Valley. However, third time’s a charm was on the side of Platte Valley as the ball was fumbled yet again seconds after this photo was taken and they recovered it.
On Friday, October 14, 2022, the undefeated East Atchison Wolves high school football team (8-1) hosted Platte Valley (7-1) in Tarkio for the Wolves’ senior night. In what would be a hard fought game, the Wolves ultimately suffered their first loss of the 2022 season, falling to Platte Valley 14 to 30.
This game was a well anticipated game and lived up to the hype. Platte Valley was the first to score, doing so twice in the second quarter and quickly putting 16 points up. The half ended with the Wolves down 0-16.
The Wolves answered back in the third quarter when Blake Simmons connected with Braden Graves for a 31 yard touchdown. Graves also ran in the two-point conversion. Platte Valley added another touchdown to make the score 8-24 Platte Valley going into the fourth quarter.
The fourth started off with Simmons finding Owen DeRosier for an 8 yard touchdown reception. Unfortunately, that would be the last score for the Wolves and with Platte Valley adding another touchdown, the game ended with a Wolves’ loss of 14-30. This was the last regular season game for East Atchison.
Although the game was much closer in yardage attained than the score (total yards for the teams were PV 255, EA 223), the two biggest keys in the game were turnovers and penalties. However, Collin Hedlund tackled a Platte Valley player for a safety and Klosek was able to create two Platte Valley fumbles while manning the Wolves’ defense.
Heading into the Class 1, District 4 play-offs, the Wolves will have a week off before facing yet another tough opponent in the Albany Bulldogs Friday, November 4, at 7:00 p.m. in Tarkio.
