November 7, 1947

• Lee Adamson entertained members of the Fairfax football squad at a fish supper in Brownville Monday night.

• Members of the Methodist Church will celebrate their anniversary Sunday with special services and a basket dinner at noon. The new organ recently installed and a baptismal font presented as a memorial gift by the Bion B. Schooler family in memory of Mrs. Mattie E. Schooler will be dedicated with a fitting sermon by Rev. John W. Ward, district superintendent.

• Charles Close returned Tuesday morning from England where he had been for almost two months visiting the scenes of his childhood and with relatives and friends he’d not seen for 30 years.

• Rupe’s Grove Lord’s Acre auction and festival held last Saturday proved to be even more successful than those who sponsored and promoted it had expected. Some of the items auctioned included: a steer donated by Fred Wasserfallen – $175.50; hog donated by Walter McCartney – $94.13; corn donated by Donald and Jess Bowman – $2.40 per bushel; alfalfa hay donated by R. R. Cunningham – $33 per ton; cakes sold as high as $7.50 each; and Harlan Donelson donated two turkeys and Ed Stewart several cases of honey.

November 9, 1972

• Atchison County followed the voting trend of the nation Tuesday, giving a big majority to President Nixon. Kit Bond captured the governor’s seat to be the first Republican to hold that office in the last 28 years. Locally, Paul Seymour was re-elected sheriff by a 32-vote margin, Hal Davis was an easy winner for county court judge of the south district, and Mike Minter was re-elected as coroner. Hardin Cox was a big winner in his home county, as well as over the district for representative to the state legislature.

• A 24-year-old Tarkio College student from Long Island, New York, has been arrested and charged with the murder of Sharon Barnett. Darryl Allen was detained Tuesday by Sheriff Paul Seymour and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol on a warrant from Fremont County, Iowa.

• About $450 worth of merchandise was missing from the Bradfield TV shop Monday morning. Thieves had removed the casing off the back door to force entry.

• The Fairfax High School Bulldogs closed their regular season on a winning note by downing the winless Nodaway-Holt Trojans 20-0.

November 6, 1997

• The Fairfax volleyball team won Districts last week in Burlington Junction. This past Saturday, their season came to a close when they lost to Lee’s Summit North High School in Sectional play. The Lady Bulldogs finished the season with a 275 Conference championship, a District 16 championship, a Sectional appearance, and a 25-3-2 record.
