November 14, 1947
• John Little, Federal Bureau of Investigation field agent, was the guest speaker at the Rock Port Rotary Club meeting last week.
• The completion of the conference season finds Coach Hinderliter’s Blue Jays in full possession of the coveted trophy indicative of the championship of the tri-state conference as a result of their victory over Peru Prep last Friday. Rock Port had already tied for the championship of the Northwest Missouri conference by virtue of beating Tarkio and Savannah and tying Maryville.
• A life’s span of more than 84 years, which was spent within a half mile of the place of his birth, came to an end November 6 when Charles Walter passed away at his home in New National district east of Rock Port.
• Atchison County, with sales of 95.2% of the 1947 goal, stands high in the voluntary purchases of Series E, F, and G savings bonds in Group 2 in the state of Missouri. The county’s goal for the year is $783,000, and its citizens have already bought bonds in the total of $746,097.
November 9, 1972
• A new self-service Phillips 66 gas station, Hill’s 66 Service, will be open for business next week in Rock Port. The business, under the management of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hill, will be located at the intersection of U.S. 136 and Main Street. The Hills operate the Phillips 66 station west of Rock Port on U.S. 136, known as the Top Kick Station, and they will continue to run that station also.
• Hardin C. Cox, Democrat, Rock Port, won reelection to a fifth term as State Representative from the Sixth District with a 3,150 vote majority over his opponent, John Costello, Republican, Oregon.
• Paul Seymour, Democrat, Tarkio, won reelection to the sheriff’s post by 32 votes over his nearest opponent, Gerald Ratliff, Republican.
• Players of the week for the Rock Port Blue Jays were Jim Clodfelter and Ken Herron. Herron carried 19 times for 41 yards in the Jays’ game against Auburn. On defense, Clodfelter played probably the greatest game in his high school career in racking up 21 tackles in Rock Port’s 34-0 loss to the Auburn Bulldogs.

• Winners of the Red Ribbon Week poster contest at Rock Port R-II School were Thomas Herron (overall winner), Myles Freborg, Blair Floyd, Janae Pearce, and Crystal Kosnjek.
• Citizens Bank & Trust held its annual Halloween Parade Friday, October 31, with 143 contestants. First place winners were: Madison Taylor, babies to 3 years; Lauren Cofer, 4 years through kindergarten; Adam Alitz, grades 1 through 3; Amber Graham, grades 4 through 6; and Veronica Allee and Dalton Jones, junior high, high school, adults, and couples.
• Jack Hartman brought a large hornet’s nest to the Atchison County Mail. The engineering masterpiece was in perfect shape.
• Patrick Bastow, Rock Port, has been nominated to receive the American FFA degree.
• Katie Howell was the winner of the McGruff Crime Dog stuffed animal. The drawing was sponsored by the Board of Public Works.
• Rock Port cross country runners competed in the district meet November 1. State qualifiers were Charlie Clodfelter, second place, 18:26; Trent Corken, sixth place 19:12; Jill Webster, third place, 22:14.
• The Rock Port Blue Jays won their last regular season home game with a 40-6 manhandling of Grand River Conference opponents Maysville. The victory moved the Blue Jays to 6-2 for the year and 2-0 in district play.
