December 12, 1947

• The annual football banquet was held at the Memorial Building Tuesday night. Letters were earned by 24 Blue Jays. Virgil Watts catered the meal.

• Coming to Rock Port Wednesday afternoon, 140 strong for a dinner that evening at the Memorial Building, followed by an entertainment in the auditorium, was the Tribe of Yessir. The goodwill group of the Omaha Chamber of Commerce arrived in Langdon via train and were met by autos from Rock Port. Once they reached town, they marched up Main Street led by the high school band.

• Subscriptions to the Atchison County Mail advance to $2.50 a year on January 1.

• For the first time in two years, a jury was called to hear a case in Rock Port Circuit Court. Besides being the first jury trial held in a long time, seven members of the jury are women – a first in Atchison County court procedure.

• L. A. Bezner, living seven miles northeast of Rock Port, is advertising a closing-out farm sale this issue, in preparation of moving to Phoenix, Arizona.

• Mr. and Mrs. Jess Herron held a dinner last Sunday in honor of their son, Donald Dean Herron, who returned home last Friday after spending four years in Germany. He served two years in France and Germany with the 6th Armored Division. During the two years since the war ended, he has worked for the American Red Cross and U.S. Army.

December 7, 1972

• In September, all the grade school classes received new aquariums. This fits in very well with the studies of Mrs. Pierce’s fifth grade class. They are studying the sea and its inhabitants.

• At the Fairfax Kiwanis Club luncheon last Tuesday, Rev. Reid Swindler brought a recorded interview between two men describing life in Hong Kong. It proved to be most interesting since the two men were walking on a busy street while exchanging ideas on China and you could hear all the street noises in the background.

• Expansion and improvement of Greenhill Cemetery in Rock Port began last Wednesday when Clint Levings Construction Company moved in two bulldozers and a grader to level land purchased from Willis Burke. A 14 foot ridge was taken off to level out the area and an eight foot hill was made to provide as many suitable lots as possible.

• November 19 was a big day at the Fairfax Baptist Church with a former pastor, Reverend James Cary, bringing the message at the morning service. This was Rally Day with 198 people in attendance. The congregation raised $1,800 that day.

December 4, 1997

• Dear Santa, bring me an electric toothbrush and a bright yellow Jeep, 4-speed with radio, seat belts, a glove box, two seats, roll bar, horn, and battery. And a robot for my mom. Chelsea Cooper

• Mandy Shaw of Rock Port will be playing with the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat Marching Band December 7 at the Kansas City Chiefs game. The Chiefs will host the Oakland Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

• True Value in Rock Port has joined with the Ministerial Alliance to provide warmth for those in need. Caps, gloves, and mittens can be put in a donation box at True Value and will be distributed to the families for Christmas.
