December 19, 1947
• Services were held last Saturday afternoon for Mrs. George C. Nicoll. Mae McCaleb Nicoll was born May 4, 1874, on the old McCaleb homestead before the town of Tarkio was plotted or the railroad built. She was the daughter of Isaac R. and Louisa (Davis) McCaleb. Following her marriage, the couple established a home on a farm six miles north of Tarkio and lived there 20 years. In 1919, they built their present home on Spruce Street, where they have since resided.
• Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Low will leave tomorrow on an air trip to Washington, D.C., where they will visit family.
• A new 16 mm sound movie projector has been purchased by Tarkio College for the use of faculty and students. Black-out shades have been provided in two classrooms so that movies may be viewed in those rooms during the day.
• Mrs. Charles Lucas suffered a broken arm Tuesday when she tripped over a wire and fell in the yard back of the Tumble Inn.
• A recorded feature on KMA, Shenandoah, Iowa, on Christmas night will be a program by the Tarkio College a capella choir under direction of Prof. Gavin L. Doughty. The recording will be heard on the air December 25.
December 21, 1972
• A 28-year-old driver fell asleep at the wheel of his 1966 Buick sedan as he was northbound on Hwy. 59 and his vehicle went off the east side of the roadway and through a fence owned by John Jones of Tarkio. No injuries were reported.
• The 1972 Boy Scouts of America Sustaining Membership Drive in Tarkio has exceeded its goal. The goal was $2,000. There are 32 boys in Tarkio Troop No. 88 and 45 members in the Tarkio Cub Pack.
• The following are winners of the second house decoration judging contest sponsored by the Tarkio Chamber of Commerce: 1st, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Campbell; 2nd, Dr. and Mrs. E. F. Bare; and 3rd, Mr. and Mrs. Denton Chambers.

• Atchison County Conservation Agent Richard W. Sperber seized five deer from three St. Joseph, Missouri, men on the afternoon of November 16 in eastern Atchison County. The men failed to immediately tag and check four of the deer they harvested. Each men entered a plea of guilty to the charges and each paid $194.50 on the tagging and $94.50 on failure to check deer on the day taken.
• Denise McEnaney, a student at Honey Tree Nursery School in Tarkio, won a $100 gift certificate to Place’s in Tarkio. The gift was the prize of the preschool’s annual fundraiser held for the school.
• Scott Dunfield is the new manager of KTRX 93.5, Tarkio. Currently, the station has about 200,000 possible listeners in reach, but Dunfield has plans to expand the coverage greatly. “We plan to add St. Joseph, Missouri, to our listening audience very soon, with Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska, to follow shortly.”
• Betsy Chapin and Lydia Hurst with the Flower Mill in Tarkio have made Community Hospital Development Council the recipient of a very exclusive Beanie Baby ever made . . . Princess. This is a memorial collectible of Princess Diana of Wales. Due to limited supply, surfers on the internet are seeing prices ranging anywhere from $740 to $2,000.
