January is a month that we are always looking forward to Spring. It seems like it is the longest month of the year. The winter, it seems, will never end. It is dark and cold and depression rates are at their highest. We often feel shut in and isolated. It is very lonely for some and even without the isolation it can still feel like the month that won’t end.
I often question in times like these where do we find peace, where are we searching for hope and for goodness? Are you looking for it in the world? Jesus tells us that we won’t find it in the world – John 16:33 says, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” But if you look at the beginning of this verse it says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.”
Jesus is our peace and when we find ourselves in the month of January or in seasons of isolation, or tribulation we have to look to Jesus and the Word for peace and hope.
Isaiah 26:3-4 puts it like this – “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for in YAH, the Lord is everlasting strength.”
If we are keeping our mind and eyes on Jesus, no matter the storm, circumstance or long winter we are facing, His Word promises to keep our mind in perfect peace. So seek Him, in tribulations, in joy, in sadness, in depression or isolation. Seek Jesus and He will never forsake you. Spring is coming, Easter is coming, the Tomb is still empty and Jesus is Alive. Seek Him until you See Him.
