We kicked off the month of February by celebrating Global School Play Day. Students got the opportunity to participate in free play throughout the day with several play stations set up in different classrooms. Benefits and goals for the free play day were to strengthen students’ ability to collaborate, work in a team, problem solve, think critically, and use positive communication skills.

In addition, we will be offering a 3-year-old half day (morning) preschool option next year. Children must be 3 years old on or before July 31, 2023, to be eligible. Registration for the 3-year-old preschool program will be on Thursday, March 23, at 6:00 p.m. in the high school gym. Our annual Maradi Mifflin Spelling Bee was held February 2 for students in grades 5-8. Over 70 students filled the south gym for the competition. Mya Welch was crowned champion on the day. Karlie Gebhards and Clara Hays tied for second and Chord Christians was fourth. These four students will compete against the top spellers from Tarkio and Fairfax at the Atchison County Spelling Bee in Rock Port on February 9. Good luck to all our county spelling bee participants!
