February 27, 1948

• The mothers of the band students held a meeting at the high school Monday evening and organized the Band Mothers Club. Mrs. Hiram True was elected president; Mrs. Edgar Stewart, vice-president; Mrs. Moran Wright, secretary; and Mrs. Frances Creed, treasurer. There were 22 mothers present for the first meeting.

• Amos Clay Deardorff passed away at Mercy Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri, Thursday of last week. Few, if any, citizens were more highly esteemed than Mr. Deardorff. For 26 years, he served as a rural carrier from the local post office. He retired in 1936. It may be said that he was one of the outstanding characters in Fairfax and Atchison County and as citizen, churchman, and friend, he will be remembered by scores for whom he had done some kindness.

• W. T. Flanagan was guest of honor at a surprise dinner at his home Sunday, February 22, the occasion being his 70th birthday. All of his sons and daughters were together with him to celebrate, the first time they’ve all been together in several years.

• Mr. and Mrs. William Sly were surprised Sunday when they read in the St. Joseph News-Press that their daughter, Ardis, had been chosen a member of the KU girls’ rifle team, sponsored by the ROTC.

March 1, 1973

• In introducing The Exchange Bank of Fairfax this week, The Forum is experiencing its first venture into offset printing for its newspaper. The supplementary section has been printed in the new quarter-million dollar plant of The Maryville Daily Forum. Preparation of copy and photographs has required many extra hours and expense.

• Mr. and Mrs. Duane Deatz and family moved this week from west of Fairfax to the Faye Davis farm east of Fairfax. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Fletcher, who have been living on the farm, moved to a Fairfax residence they recently purchased from Chas. Moore.

• Mrs. Eula Fraser has signed a contract to teach Honeytree Nursery School in Tarkio again next year.

February 26, 1998

• The Fairfax FHA members sponsored a Sweetheart Banquet and Dance. This year’s theme was “Truly, Madly, Deeply” and sweetheart royalty included King Jason Kemerling, Queen Patty Heitman, Prince David Gomel, and Princess Jessica Johnson. Nearly 75 students attended the dance.

• The Fairfax Community Betterment voted to support the ambulance tax levy. They presented a check for $250 to the organization called Friends of the Atchison-Holt Ambulance District to be used in promoting the levy in the upcoming election in April.

• Over The Back Fence by Nancy Gaines: “Rev. Allan Bash, pastor of the Christian Church in Fairfax, left with his wife and son for China this week. They are adoting a daughter there.” “Thought for the day . . . ‘Foolish people spend a large part of their short lives doing work they don’t like in order to buy things they don’t need.’”

• Danny and Sherry Clark of Fairfax announce the birth of twin daughters born February 19 at Community Hospital, Fairfax. Amber Dawn was born at 11:51 a.m. and weighed 5 pounds, 4.5 ounces and April Lynn was born at 11:55 a.m. and weighed 4 pounds and 10 ounces. They are also welcomed home by five-year-old twin sisters, Ashley Ann and Alicia Marie.
