February 27, 1948
• Mr. and Mrs. John T. Wells have received word that their son, Gordon Wells, has started home from Korea, where he has been with the army. He will be the last of three Rock Port youth who entered the service at the same time to return home. The other two are Stewart Harmes and Hardin Cox.
• One of H. Y. Rupe’s commercial trucks had a bad smash-up at St. Joseph Sunday when it crashed into a two-story brick building and caused the collapse of the front of the building.
• Sgt. and Mrs. V.L. Bradford and children visited Mrs. Bradford’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Zuck, while on their way to Germany. Mr. Bradford, a technical sergeant in the army, will be stationed there for the next two years.
• The beautiful memory wedding chapel of the Chamberlain greenhouse, which is at the service to the public, held its first wedding Sunday afternoon, when the Morgan-Kemerling wedding party of Tarkio used the setting. The altar is of natural wood finish and the walls are tinted a dusty rose.
February 22, 1973
• Suel Gardner of California took possession of the Watson Market Wednesday.
• Loss of 14 tank heaters and tools were reported to Sheriff Paul Seymour by Raymond Ottmann of Rock Port February 20. The tank heaters were stolen from the Ottmann feed lot and the tools were taken from his pickup parked at the Atchison County Coop headquarters northwest of Rock Port.
• Overheated grease was the cause of a fire at the jail house February 17. Deputy Templeton’s daughter was in the process of making some donuts when a pan of grease caught fire. Considerable damage was done to the stove and there was extensive smoke damage.
• A Tarkio College student was arrested on charges of tampering with a motor vehicle. The crime took place at the home of Ned Seymour in Tarkio. Officers found the Seymour auto jacked up and an attempt had been made to take a tire off. The suspect’s auto with a flat tire was parked in front of the place and the suspect was found walking about two blocks away.
• Miss Debbie Knierim and Bob Stubblefield were crowned Homecoming Queen and King at Rock Port’s basketball games February 16.
• A full-grown bull elk has been feeding with cows on a farm around Rock Port for a year and a half and doesn’t show any signs of wanting to leave. Mrs. Willis Burke of Rock Port has the elk’s antler shed that she found last spring while mushroom hunting.
February 19, 1998
• Atchison County Spelling Bee winners were LoryAnne Bressler, 1st, and Jesse Murphy, 2nd. They will move on to Regionals in St. Joseph, Missouri, Saturday, March 21.
• Wilbur and Evonne Wright were named the Valentine King and Queen of Hearts at Rock Port Senior Center.
• First Lutheran Church will host a special guest, Yuri Skopylatov of Russia, during worship services Sunday, February 22.
• The Clothing I and II project groups of the Lucky Clover 4-H Club are making Beanie Baby sleeping bags. They will be on sale at Stoner Drug for $5 each with proceeds going toward finishing the inside of the fair building.
