Carolyn Irene Smith, the daughter of Irene (Vance) and Ira Paul Smith, was born May 4, 1949, in Hamburg, Iowa. Carolyn attended Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri, graduating in 1967. She attended an IBM business college in Kansas City, Missouri.
Following graduation, Carolyn worked at the family restaurant, the 59er Cafe, Tarkio. After moving to Mesa, Arizona, Carolyn was employed in cosmetology. Later, she joined Dillard’s in retail sales and was an assistant registrar at Mesa Community College. She was most recently employed by ProSource of Arizona as a secretary. Carolyn’s hard work and commitment to her job made her a valued employee.
Carolyn was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Tarkio.
Carolyn loved her family dearly and kept in touch with them through the years. She loved hearing stories about the activities of her nieces and nephews and their pictures filled her home. Carolyn was a devoted daughter and cared for her mother, Irene, the last few years of her life.
Carolyn passed away Monday, January 23, 2023, in Gilbert, Arizona, at the age of 73.
Besides her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by infant sister. Survivors include siblings, Billy Paul (Teresa) Smith, Tarkio, and Darrell Ray (Diana) Smith, Diamond, Missouri; nieces and nephews, Brett Patrick Smith, Dallas, Texas, Melanie Ann (David) Freeland, Los Angeles, California, Timothy Ray (Kristen) Smith, Gastonia, North Carolina, Travis Heath (Charla) Smith, Overland Park, Kansas, and Tyler Clay (Lindsey) Smith, Joplin, Missouri; great-nieces and -nephews, Savanna, Dylan, Morgan, Kaden, Beckett, Luke, Emerson, Peyton, Maxwell, Bodhi, and Crosby; and numerous aunts, uncles, and friends.
Graveside service and inurnment will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Home Cemetery, Tarkio. There is no visitation.
