• Milford Youel has purchased the Youel home place of 200 acres from his mother, Mrs. W.T.J. Youel, thus terminating a partnership that lasted 29 years. Earl Brindle, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Milford Youel, has purchased the Youel farm equipment and is now in partnership with Mr. Youel under the name Youel & Brindle. He will manage the farm operations. The Youels will move to the town home and the Brindles will move to the farm.

• The January issue of “Interpretation,” a journal of Bible and Theology, with a nationwide circulation among churchmen and religious workers, carried an article by the Rev. Harold M. Parker, Jr., pastor of Fairfax Presbyterian Church. The article was printed under the department of “The Interpreter’s Forum” and was on “The Great Commission.”

• Max Stalcup has dressed up the grocery department at the Fairfax Locker Plant by redecorating, rearranging stock and fixtures, and adding a vegetable rack.

• The Northwest Missouri State Teachers College 45-piece band, under the direction of John Smay, will present a concert at the Fairfax High School Monday evening. The Band Mothers’ Club is organizing the event to raise funds for the purchase of new band instruments. Admission is 50¢ and 25¢.

March 15, 1973

• Mrs. Cecile Ray returned Friday after six months visiting with her children in Germany and California. Mrs. Ray left in September, flying to Germany and spending the holidays with her son-in-law and daughter, Sgt. and Mrs. Richard Jones. In January, she flew to California and spent two months with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Ray, and daughters.

• Women of the United Methodist Church in Fairfax are inviting all other women of the community to join them Monday, March 26, when two missionaries from Sierra Leone will be special guests. Directors of the conference of the young African nation, the missionaries will speak of their experiences and needs of the emerging nations.

• James S. Graham submitted his resignation as principal and basketball coach at Fairfax High School. He has accepted a position as Superintendent of School at Pattonsburg R-II.

• Mr. and Mrs. Ron Ray and daughters of Seal Beach, California, will leave April 27 for Copenhagen, Denmark, wheren Ron will represent his company, Collins Radio, for three to five months. In addition to Denmark, Ron will be traveling to Norway and Sweden.

• Charles L. Moore, the last customer in the old building, became the first to make a deposit at the new Exchange Bank of Fairfax Monday, March 12, some 15 months later.

March 12, 1998

• Doyne and Virginia Swan of Fairfax will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, March 21, with a reception at the Fairfax Baptist Church. They were married March 20, 1948, by Rev. J. A. Slover at Mound City, Missouri. Doyne is a veteran of WWII, having served with the 444th Bomb Group in India and Tinian Island and is retired from 35 years with the Postal Service.

• Over the Back Fence by Nancy Gaines: “Thought for the day . . . ‘You know you’ve reached middle age when you notice that you are older than many of the players on your favorite sports team.’”

• The Fairfax Lady Bulldogs defeated the Tarkio Lady Indians 53-39 for the district championship.
