• Elmer Hicks and family have moved to the Youel farm near Fairfax from Willow Springs, Missouri. Several years ago, they lived on the J.C. Brown farm near Tarkio.
• A moving picture of Shakespeare’s famous comedy, “As You Like It,” will be shown Monday, March 22, at David Rankin Hall. Appearing in the movie is the famous screen and stage star, Laurence Olivier, recognized Shakespearian actor.
• The Tarkio Chamber of Commerce’s Style Show and Dance were a huge success. Models showcased attire from the Tot and Teens Shop, Tarkio High School’s home economics class, Modern Beauty Shop, Schoonover Beauty Shop, the Golden Rule, Hurst’s store, Tarkio Style Shop, and the Vogue shop.
• Miss Eloise Wine reports that among the new books at the Tarkio Public Library is a volume for the memorial shelf. “The Life of Robert E. Lee” by Roy Meredith was given by Mrs. George Stevenson in memory of Mrs. E.S. Grimm. Other new books include “The Purple Plain,” “Message from a Stranger,” and “Complete Stories of Great Operas.”

• Tarkio spellers who will be competing in the Atchison County Spelling Bee in Rock Port are Barney Farley, Tammy Harris, Steve Hoshor, and Chris Wineman.
• Mrs. Gelvin Stevenson and Mrs. Ralph Hackett plan to leave April 6 for the Orient. From Hawaii, the guided tour will take them on to the Near East, Middle East, and Far East on a five week trip.
• The Atchison County Chapter of the Sweet Adelines will have two presentations of its annual show. They will perform March 30 at the Rock Port High School and April 13 at the Mule Barn Theatre in Tarkio for Dixieland Daze. Making a return appearance will be the special guest quartet The Great Danes from Omaha and Les Corey, King of the Banjos, from Omaha.
• Ralph Jackson has what he terms a “hippie” rooster named Sam. The feathers on his topknot are so long and flowing they hang in front of his eyes, causing him to flip his head to toss them back, reminiscent of the action of a long-haired young man.

• Some of the Tarkio Community Betterment Banquet award recipients recognized March 16 included: Farm Family – Gary, Darcy, and Brooke Vette; Employees of the Year – Karen Messbarger (Pizza Hut) and Anne Barnett (Tarkio R-I); and Citizen of the Year – Leland Crapson.
• A new automatic car wash was installed at Dave’s Convenience and Car Wash in Tarkio. Midland Car Wash Services, LLC, in Maryville did the installation.
• Local businessmen, Tarkio Academy staff, and Tarkio and Fairfax High School students will be competing in donkey basketball games at the Tarkio High School Gym March 23.
• Snow stranded many in their country homes for an entire week. An insulator which succumbed to the wind and snow fell in the Wennihans’ cattle lot and unfortunately electrocuted five steers.
