March 26, 1948
• Norman Moats, son of Mrs. Alma Moats of Tarkio, arrived in the states last Wednesday from Cairo, Egypt, for a visit with his mother and sister while on his way to Wilmington, Delaware, to attend a special aviation training school.
• The Easter Parade will be photographed in technicolor by Don White if all goes according to plan on Sunday. Mr. White intends to station himself at the Presbyterian Church Sunday morning to catch the Easter churchgoers.
• Selections from “The Glorious Galilean,” a cantata by Elsie Duncan, will be presented at the Tarkio Methodist Church by the Westboro Methodist Church Choir Easter Sunday. Solo numbers will be performed by Francis Sage (bass), Jackie Erickson (soprano), Doris Marquart (soprano), and Virginia Bullerdiek (alto).
• A gift to Tarkio College in the amount of $3,500 was made by TC graduates Dr. R. Huston Henderson (’10) and his wife, Eunice Swain Henderson (’14), of Milmette, Illinois. They have made the gift in memory of their son who lost his life in World War II and they request the money be used in the advanced chemistry lab in the new science building, which has yet to be erected.

• In a hard-fought contest, the Morning Sun 4-H Club elementary boys’ basketball team won 14-13 over the Lucky Clover “Bassetts” of Stanberry to win the tournament Saturday, March 17, in Maryville. High scorer of the tournament was Mike Wennihan of Morning Sun Club with a total of 42 points in four games. Twenty-five teams participated.
• Orley Teague and Chet Barrett were recognized as 50-year charter members of the American Legion Post No. 32 in Westboro, Missouri.
• Reverend and Mrs. William F. Hunter, United Methodist missionaries to Sierra Leone, will speak at the Tarkio United Methodist Church March 30.
• Nearly 150 persons attended the annual Community Betterment Banquet to honor and recognize their fellow citizens. Mrs. Joan Kemerling was named Employee of the Year, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Hicks were named Farm Family of the Year and Mrs. Luretta Turnbull was named Citizen of the Year.

• David Tufts, a 26-year-old professional cyclist, presented “Perfection on Wheels,” a message of how to be tobacco, alcohol and other drugs-free, to Tarkio Elementary and Middle School students.
• Atchison County 4-H royalty was crowned at the carnival Friday, March 20. Jesse Simmons was crowned king and Emily Burke was crowned queen.
• Atchison County schools are participating in the embryology school enrichment program each year sponsored by the Atchison County University Outreach and Extension Center.
• The Atchison County University of Missouri Extension Council recently recognized its retiring members. Cathy Lesher of Westboro, Wally Riebesell and Cecil Demott of Rock Port, and Suzanne Southard of Fairfax received certificates of appreciation.
