EA defeated by Rock Port in county baseball contests

The Rock Port Blue Jay baseball team hosted the East Atchison Wolves in an Atchison County match-up Thursday, April 6, 2023.

The varsity Blue Jays defeated the Wolves 8-3. The Jays got things started in the first inning when Wolf pitcher Zack Stevens threw a wild pitch allowing one run across the plate for Rock Port. Rock Port pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning when Tyler Cook doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run and Zane Cook singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Jarrett Hunter got the start on the mound for Rock Port. He went six innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out seven.

Stevens started the game for East Atchison. The hurler went two innings, allowing five runs on six hits and striking out two. Alex Erickson and River Dow entered the game from the bullpen, throwing three and a third innings and two-thirds of an inning respectively.

Rock Port tallied 12 hits. Jarrett Hunter, Aidan Burke, Zane Cook, and Corbyn Jakub each collected multiple hits for Rock Port. Hunter went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead.

The junior varsity teams also faced off on the field. Both teams were strong on the pitcher’s mound, but Rock Port was just a little bit stronger at the plate with the Blue Jays winning 3-0.

Mason McMahon lasted one inning on the mound, allowing two hits and two runs while striking out one and walking one. Gabe Harms and Brayden Smith entered the game as relief, both throwing one inning each.

Tyler Cook led things off on the mound for Rock Port. He went two innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out five and walking one.
