• Work has begun on the campus of Tarkio College to remodel, renovate, and build a two-story addition on the east of Marshall Hall, the girls’ dormitory.
• More than 135 persons attended the dinner meeting of the Lions Club Monday in Westboro when the presentation of their charter was made.
• Robert J. Nicoll has retired as assistant postmaster after 35 years of high quality service at the local post office. He was the local mail supervisor. He began here as a clerk when Frank McKim was postmaster. Phil A. Dragoo has replaced Woodrow Marrs as temporary north side carrier and Mr. Marrs is now employed inside the post office as clerk. Ralph Strom, Tarkio College student, is substitute north city carrier.
• Joe McIntosh, longtime resident of Tarkio, took his first ride in an airplane Saturday, May 1, three days following his 84th birthday. Frank C. Peterson flew the delighted 84-year-old McIntosh to Clarinda, Iowa, and back to Tarkio.
• Don Harrison has purchased from Fred Harper the Harper Oil Station at the corner of Fourth and Elm streets and the business henceforth will be known as the Harrison Oil Company. LeRoy Hurtig of Tarkio will operate the station for Mr. Harrison.
May 10, 1973
• Miss Nancy Jo Barrett will teach girls physical education at the Tarkio R-I School this fall. She will also serve as Pep Club sponsor.
• Edna Walker Chandler will speak Sunday evening, May 11, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She is the author of the “Cowboy Sam” series of elementary readers used in many schools all over America.
• The fourth grade boys and girls contributed money and purchased a new Missouri flag for the Tarkio Elementary School. The class held a dedication ceremony at the flag pole April 27.
• In a storybook finish, the Tarkio College Owls won the Heart of America Conference Track Championship. Tarkio hosted the meet on May 5 at the Mustang Field in Shenandoah, Iowa. It has a lighted track needed for the evening finals.

• Tarkio High School Junior/Senior Prom King was David White and Queen was Crystal King. A pre-prom dinner sponsored by C.A.T. was held at the Walnut Inn before the prom dance took place at the Community Building in Tarkio.
• Fitzhugh Lee Diggs, 100, of Rock Port, passed away Monday, April 27. He and his wife, Hazel, began banding birds in 1964 as a hobby. They tagged over 50,000 birds.
• Parshall Concrete, owned and operated by Roger Parshall of Tarkio, had recently moved to a temporary location in Phelps City, Missouri. On Tuesday, April 28, between 12:00 and 12:30 p.m., the cement silo at the plant in Phelps City collapsed. It contained 100 tons of dry cement and was standing on 80 foot legs. No one was injured.
• Plans have been finalized for a stick horse race during the Tarkio Rodeo weekend. The different breeds of stick horses include the splinter dels, quarter staff horses, saw horse, thoroboards, etc.
