• Clarence Weedin suffered a serious back injury Thursday morning of last week when he fell from a horse while driving some livestock from a pasture.
• Pupils of Prairie Flower school and their teacher took a trip to Lincoln. They visited the Nebraska state capitol building, the historical society museum, the University of Nebraska museum, the state penitentiary, and zoo.
• The Fairfax Kiwanis Club will celebrate its second anniversary May 20 with a ladies’ night and banquet.
• The Fairfax baseball team won its first home game of the season Sunday by defeating Falls City, Nebraska, 3 to 2.
• Chilly and cloudy weather has caused some farmers to delay corn planting. While there has been little rainfall the past week, temperatures have remained below average and on one or two nights, frost was feared, although it did not appear.

• Thieves broke into the home of Mrs. Paul McCartney north of Fairfax Sunday morning. The house was ransacked and numerous items were missing, including a TV set, silver chest, and jewelry.
• As part of the public auction of varied articles, Neal Judy came to town Saturday in a horse-drawn wagon and gave a ride to eager youngsters.
• A ground-breaking ceremony for the park stage was recently held. Over $3,000 was raised for the project.
• John Schlachter, 67, former Fairfax R-3 employee, passed away Friday, May 11. John was well-loved at the school and even had a yearbook dedicated to him in 1967. John was born April 22, 1906, in Austria, Hungary, and he and his parents emigrated from Germany to the United States in 1907.
• Approximately 30 boys were on hand Saturday afternoon in the city park to participate in the Kiwanis-sponsored Bicycle Rodeo. Kevin Carder was the overall winner.
• Everett Brown, assistant to the president of Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville will be speaker at the 78th annual commencement at Fairfax High School May 17. Twenty-eight seniors will receive their diplomas.
• Atchison County Head Start students took a field trip to Charity Lake May 9. The group participated in a demonstration on fishing lures, equipment, casting practice, and bait fishing.

• The Fairfax High School Band will be presenting a concert in the Fairfax City Park Monday, May 18. A homemade pie auction will be held as well.

• The 103rd Fairfax High School Commencement will be held Sunday, May 17. Graduating seniors include Joshua Coleman, Courtney Davis, Eric Davis, Jason Frohn, Melanie Hall, Patty Heitman, Trudy Heitman, Jason Kemerling, Nathan Lawrence, Jeannie O’Riley, Amber Oswald, Dylan Sly, and Jacob Smith.
• Fairfax Community Betterment will be hosting a coffee event on Saturday morning, May 16, at the school cafeteria for alumni. A tour of the school house will also take place.
