• A record crowd of 300 former graduates and other guests attended the annual high school alumni party at the Memorial Building Friday evening. Bluford LaHue, president, arranged an interesting program. Greg Chamberlain was master of ceremonies of the initiation.
• Persons who drive to Rock Port’s municipal park can begin to see evidence of what the recent addition of 25 acres to the park will mean in the expanded tract which comprises the park.
• The board of education of the Langdon school district No. 66, which is a combination of three rural districts in the Langdon community, is advertising for bids for a new school building, which is to be erected at Langdon to serve the needs of the combined district.
• Gallup Golden Rule Stores advertised the following men’s buys: slacks, $6.98; straw hats, $1.98; all leather oxfords, $5.98.
• Lightning entered the Dan Wilds home on West Mill Street on electric wires last Friday night and did considerable damage. The lightning shattered a floor lamp and set fire to curtains.

• The nationwide gasoline shortage will force Atchison County consumers to change their buying habits. Most Rock Port area service stations will now be closed on Sunday, and are limited to no more gas than was sold by them last year.
• Greenley’s Market advertised the following “Garden Show” specials: rib steak, $1.29 per pound; tomato soup, six cans for 79¢; flour, 39¢ for a five pound bag; Del Monte catsup, four 14-oz. bottles for $1; and Kool-aid, six packets for 35¢.
• Eight boys on the Rock Port track team qualified for the state track meet in Columbia. They are: John Ingram, 880 and 2 mile relay; Dan Stanton, 2 mile relay; Reed Martin, 100 yard dash, long jump, and the mile relay; Barry Minter, 220, high jump, and mile relay; Clay Knierim, mile relay; Gary Bogenreif, 2 mile relay and mile relay; Ronnie McMahon, pole vault; and Mick Wilczek, 2 mile relay.
• Eric Chamberlain, son of Mr. and Mrs. Greg Chamberlain, and Lisa Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Brown, are the Good School Citizens for the fourth quarter. Both are graduating seniors at Rock Port High School.

• The Rock Port Garden Club has selected 606 E. Cass Street as the Yard of the Month. Herb and Betty Gebhards have done a beautiful job of highlighting and accenting the entire yard.
• Ryan Meyerkorth, son of Rick and Patti Meyerkorth, has signed a letter of intent to compete as a Bearcat next year. Ryan will play football and compete in track and field.
• The Rock Port Blue Jays won the 275 Conference Track Meet held Friday, May 1, at Blue Jay Stadium in Rock Port. The Lady Jays placed second.
• National Day of Prayer was observed Thursday, May 7. The event was sponsored by Cabin Fever and Rock Port Rotary.
• The Rock Port Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire call at the Rock Port Truck Plaza Wednesday, May 6. The apparent cause was a hose and mop near a water heater, causing extensive smoke damage.
