The commencement ceremony for the Tarkio High School Class of 2023 was held Sunday, May 14, 2023, in the high school gym. Twenty-one seniors earned their diplomas: Faith Ann Anderson, Alaina Anne Armstrong, Emily Grace Rena Blum, Charles Steven Connor Brown, Emilee Kaye Caudill, Shania Lee Deffenbaugh, Tyler Malcolm Donaldson, Alexis Lauren Gibler, Kiara Billie Hines, William Joseph Kimpston, II, Josie Olivia King, Kelsea Marie Kirwan, Daniel Dean Lesher, Kayden Alexsander Levendahl, Gabriella Alestis Powell, Caleb Andrew Ritchie, Tessa Elizabeth Rolf, Tanner Eugene Rollins, Slade Dylan Rosenbohm, Rylie Marie Simmons, and Jarrett Michael Spinnato.

Senior National Honor Society members were Emilee Caudill, Kelsea Kirwan, Alexis Gibler, Daniel Lesher, Josie King, and Tessa Rolf. Senior class officers were: Daniel Lesher, president; Tessa Rolf, vice-president; Emilee Caudill, secretary; Alexis Gibler, treasurer; and Josie King and Jarrett Spinnato, Student Council representatives. Class sponsors were Joe Unternahrer and Beth Wennihan. The class song was “Home Sweet Home” by Motley Crue. The class motto was “At least we won homecoming that one year.” by Daniel Lesher. The class colors were light pink and white and the class flower was the peony.

The Tarkio High School Band played “Pomp & Circumstance” as the seniors, led by junior escorts, Ian Stepp and Tommi Martin, filed into the gymnasium. Tarkio High School Principal Nick Kemerling led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. Tarkio R-I Superintendent Carrie Livengood welcomed all in attendance and asked for a moment of silence for Marla Swaby, superintendent secretary, who recently passed away. Mrs. Livengood then  introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Ellie Graves, Tarkio R-I 6th-8th School Counselor. Following Mrs. Graves’ address, a slide show presentation was played. The Tarkio High School Choir sang “By Your Side and in Your Heart.” Tessa Rolf, valedictorian, and Emilee Caudill, salutatorian, gave their speech, “We Made It.” Mr. Kemerling, with the assistance of Tarkio R-I School Board President Garrett Wood, presented the diplomas. Mr. Kemerling then led everyone in the Pledge to the School Flag and the graduates exited the gym to their class song, “Home Sweet Home.” Everyone gathered outside on the east lawn to congratulate the graduates.
