The Rock Port Park Board met Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at the city park. Members present were Jennifer Geib, Sheena Roup, Tawni Ellis, Madison Erdman, and Devon Sons. Kory Paris, city liaison, was also present.
The meeting agenda was approved.
Bob Caffarelli from Carrothers Construction gave a presentation on the work that his company has completed for other communities including small, rural communities. He walked around and looked at the pool, offering suggestions.
Board members voted to approve the April 18 meeting minutes.
Pool Update
The Park Board has been in contact with Rensis about the current contract.
Plans are to open on Monday, May 29. Pool passes will be available to purchase online or in person at the pool.
The city workers have installed the new pump for the baby pool, but are waiting on a few things before they pour the cement. The Park Board will reach out to the High School Ag Department to build a door for the women’s bathhouse to contain the pump for the baby pool.
The recirculation motor will be back when ACCO arrives next.
The top of the pump that drains the pool came off and will be replaced before the opening date.
Patching materials for the pool have been ordered.
An eye wash station from the dome at the school will be donated to the city pool to replace the one in the chemical room that must be replaced.
Amy Alexander has been working on the lifeguard training and will be doing the instructor training on May 20 and 21. She needs to take a seven-hour online course before she can attend in person on May 20.
The pool has met 20% of the water usage for the year. They will have to keep a close eye on the water usage in the event of water loss in the pool.
Park Update
One branch needs to be cut off at the entrance into the park. This needs to be done before Summer Palooza.
There was discussion on swings and a chain to attach the blue pod on the playground equipment.
Surveillance System
A CoBank Share the Success Matching Grant has been received and the surveillance system will be ordered as soon as possible. Jarod has offered to help with installation.
Trash/Green Shed Bathrooms
The city workers will take care of cleaning the restrooms in the green shed and emptying the trash.
Rock Port High School FBLA, Student Council, and Peer Counselors completed “Lead for Change,” a community service project, at the park. Park Board members appreciate the students’ hard work at the city park.
Other Business
Community concerns include the concrete divide and the fence between the golf course and the ball field. The concrete divide was hit and has shifted. The Park Board will look into painting it.
Paris Repair would like to host three movie nights in the park. Free will donations will be accepted and will go towards fixing the pool.
There will be a fundraising concert in the park July 22.
The next meeting is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on May 17, 2023, at the pool shelter house.
