• The Cub Scouts and several dads took a fishing trip to Gray’s Lake Tuesday afternoon and were successful in landing several fish and one large channel cat.

• Arthur M. Mathews, a 1911 Tarkio College graduate, is now vice-president of the Citizens National Trust and Savings Bank of Los Angeles, California, and is manager of the new Wilshire-Curson Branch Office. This is the largest branch of Citizens National.

• Miss Catherine “Katie” Curry passed away June 10 at the Fred Davenport home in Tarkio. Katie was born at Heron Island, New Brunswick, Canada, on April 7, 1860. When she was 12, she and her parents, Peter and Mary Dutch Currie, came to the United States and settled where Tarkio now stands.

• Charles Riggs of Nebraska City, Nebraska, suffered a fractured skull and neck vertebrae in a truck crash seven miles north of Rock Port on Highway 275. Riggs was driving behind John “Mack” Hartman of Watson when Hartman slowed to turn and Riggs tried to pass and hit the Hartman vehicle. Riggs’ truck, which was loaded with roofing and tar, slid 210 feet on its side and top into the yard of Floyd McCall. Riggs was pulled from the burning cab by Hartman.

• Patricia Twitty, one and a half-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Twitty, was saved from drowning last Thursday by her five-year-old brother, Michael. Patricia fell head first into a stock tank with three or four feet of water, and Michael, with one arm in a sling, pulled her out by grabbing onto her dress.

• The Tarkio Community Garden Club has released its Yard of the Month selections for June: Steve and Renea Prather, 602 N. 10th; Miriam St. Clair, 411 N. 12th; Ed and Janice Hunkins, 903 Park Street; Mr. and Mrs. Owen Davenport, 405 Sycamore Street; John and Marilyn Wilcox, 804 Elm Street; Gary and Lana Davison, 905 Walnut Street; and the Mercantile Bank.

• Children at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Tarkio recently celebrated their First Holy Communion. They are Braden Klein, Colleen O’Riley, Megan Graves, Derek Klein, Rachel McEnaney, Morgan Kemerling, and Veronica Johnson.

• The Levings Construction crew recently assembled a robot, GaWheezer-9, that will visit the Space Mission Bible Camp VBS at the United Methodist Church in Tarkio.

• P.E.O. Chapter FF held its annual benefit luncheon and style show June 6 at the home of Mary and Ralph Hackett at 902 Park Street in Tarkio.
