June 18, 1948

• A revival meeting in which the four churches of Fairfax will participate is scheduled to start July 18 in Fairfax and continue for two weeks. The evangelist will be William H. Rice of Wheaton, Illinois. Rice is a nationally known preacher who has conducted many successful revival meetings in all parts of the country.

• Harvey Kincannon is the new mechanic at the Melvin Bros. Shop and he and his wife and two sons are living in one of the Glen McDonald apartments. Mr. Kincannon is the son of the late Clint Kincannon of this community and has been employed in a machine shop in Fremont, Nebraska, rebuilding motors.

• Dr. C. H. Morgan, Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., of the Elizabeth Kenny Institute of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and also a faculty member of the University of Minnesota School of Medicine, will come to Fairfax Tuesday and present a 90-minute film and lecture on infantile paralysis.

• Drivers of American Burlington busses report that firecrackers or some other explosives were thrown at their busses on both Monday and Tuesday nights. H. L. Claus reports that a firecracker was thrown into the side of the bus he was driving Monday. George Ginger reports that his bus was struck by the explosive Tuesday night just below the windshield in front of the driver and exploded, denting the front of the bus and marring the paint. Both were thrown from oncoming cars they met just east of Rock Port.

June 21, 1973

• Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kemerling will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary Sunday with an open house at their home. They were married June 29 at the Fairfax Methodist Church parsonage and have lived in the Fairfax community all their married lives.

• Quick action of a fellow swimmer saved the life of Randy Ervin of Nebraska City, Nebraska, at Big Lake State Park on Sunday. Randy, 16, was swimming with others when he stepped into a hole and disappeared. Another youth, said to have been from Tarkio, dived twice before he recovered Randy and brought him to shore. Dr. Bruce McRae of Mound City gave emergency treatment at the scene and the lad was taken to the Fairfax hospital, where he recovered and was released Tuesday.

• Three inches of asphalt matting was rolled onto three blocks of streets in Fairfax. The three blocks were completed in one long day Saturday.

June 18, 1998

• Over The Back Fence by Nancy Gaines: “It’s been a long time since I attended a dance recital and the one at Tarkio this weekend of the students of Kara Napierala was outstanding! Their costumes were beautiful and many Fairfax girls were in the recital. During the program, the sirens sounded for a tornado warning. The children were taken to the halls and many of the adults went with them, but the majority of us just stayed in the auditorium.”

• Diana K. Dickkut of Rock Port is a new court clerk 2, deputy circuit clerk and recorder at the office of Sharon Meyer, circuit clerk and recorder at the Atchison County Courthouse in Rock Port.

• The Baptist Vacation Bible School was held last week. The other three churches in town did not have a VBS so the turnout at this one was huge. Eighty-one students and a faculty of 34 attended.
