The Atchison County Library is happy to introduce two new faces. Jennifer Roup is the new director of the library and Amanda Vette is the new children’s librarian.
Jennifer Roup is a long time Rock Port resident. She graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 2008 with a degree in English. She has been a book reviewer for 11 years and a lifelong reader, so working at the library is a dream come true. She lives in Rock Port with her husband, Christopher Roup, and their kids. She enjoys going to her kids’ sporting events and various activities, reading, and traveling. One of the tasks she is looking forward to as director is creating more activities for people of all ages to enjoy at the library and to expand services and events that the library can provide. Her favorite book is Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Amanda Vette started as the Children’s Librarian the first part of April. Her primary responsibilities involve children’s programming, like the Summer Reading Program, as well as outreach to county schools and early learning centers. Amanda holds an undergraduate degree in Biological/Pre-Medical Illustration and a Master’s degree in Integrated Visual Art, both from Iowa State University. She has a passion for education and loves to work with children, so sees her new position as a way to enhance the already great educational opportunities available to kids in this community. She’s looking forward to kid craft times and other chances to put her artistic skills to the test!
Amanda grew up in Hamburg, Iowa, and lives in Tarkio, Missouri, with her husband, Brian. She enjoys time with her family, art projects, and a number of crafting and cooking hobbies. She likes to keep active at St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she currently oversees the Sunday School. Amanda has too many favorite books to mention, but most come from her favorite authors – Agatha Christie and Charles Dickens.
