Two vehicles collided at the intersection of 8th and Walnut streets on Hwy. 136 in Tarkio, Missouri, Tuesday morning, June 20, 2023. At 8:35 a.m., Karissa Harbit, 32, of Tarkio was traveling westbound on the highway. At the same time, Shirley Smith, 67, of Fairfax, Missouri, was traveling northbound on 7th Street. Smith failed to yield at the stop sign and hit Harbit’s vehicle. Both parties denied medical assistance on the scene. Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene. Smith was cited for C&I. The Tarkio Police Department, Tarkio Fire Department, Atchison-Holt Ambulance Service, Atchison County Sheriff’s Office, and Double M Towing responded to the scene.
