• Several tractors were in the field at Ranch 11 the past week to harvest a wonderful crop of wheat which yielded an average of 62 and one-third bushels per acre. The 21-acre tract at one time was the old Manning Lake and in many years past has yielded nothing at all. Part of the extensive David Rankin holdings, the land is now owned by the late Mr. Rankin’s daughter, Mrs. M. B. Giffen of Washington, D.C. It is farmed by Don Hurst.
• Joe Corbin, 10 years old, was the object of a wide search Wednesday night and into Thursday morning until he was found with his dog about 7:00 a.m. just a quarter of a mile from his home, which is located eight miles east and a mile and half south of Tarkio.
• Rev. Maurice McQuinn and Rev. Donald Miller, two Catholic priests of St. Joseph, will give religious talks in Tarkio at the north city park each evening next week from July 19 to 24.

• Out of 119 4-H youngsters from Atchison, Holt, Nodaway, Gentry, and Worth counties and 18 counsels, Suzanne Hull was selected Miss Senior Camp Queen. The award is given on the basis of camp spirit, participation in programs, and camp friendliness.
• Tarkio’s cable television system will mark its seventh year of service to the community on July 16 with a change in name. On that date, Cypress Cable TV will become Warner Cable of Atchison County as part of a similar nationwide name change by all 130 of the Warner Cable Corp. cable TV systems.
• Janet Watkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Watkins, was one of the 12 selected as All-Stars at the conclusion of the Burlington Junction softball tournament held last week.
• Funeral services were held Saturday, July 14, for Mrs. Ina W. Bell. Mrs. Bell was born at Tarkio August 7, 1888. She gave private piano lessons most of her life until she retired a year ago.
• The Senior Girl Scouts of Atchison County will sponsor a pet show August 1 in the Rock Port shelter house at the park. The event will also include a turtle race and frog jump.
• City officials from several northwest Missouri cities met in Maryville July 18 to honor outstanding civic leaders in this area. Robert Rankin was recognized as the outstanding civic leader for Tarkio.
• Helen Austin and Doris Ann Schmidt, teachers in the Tarkio R-I Schools, were chosen Outstanding Secondary Educators of America for 1973.

• Marge Hamilton of Tarkio made a hole-in-one on Tuesday evening, July 7, at the Shenandoah, Iowa, golf course. Several ladies from Tarkio had traveled to Shenandoah for a golf outing.
• The Community Services office in Tarkio has relocated to 101 Walnut Street. Betty Beckman of Tarkio is the director of the local office. She has been the county director for 12 years
• Rainfall received in the area Thursday, July 9, caused a section of Route AA in Atchison County to give in. A new tube arrived July 13 to fix the road. Officials hope to have the road open in a week.
