Veterans Donald Lee Martin, Jim Morrison, and Charlie Martin were recognized for their service in the armed forces during the veterans’ recognition ceremony at Westboro Wildcat Days Saturday, July 15, 2023, in Westboro, Missouri.
During the ceremony, a 21-gun salute was performed by local legionnaires Tim Morehouse, Jesse Payne, James Mather, Roger Pennel, Chris Stevens, Brian Peterson, and David Smith.
Connor Brown played “The Star Spangled Banner” on guitar.
The late George Laur and Gabe Poptanycz, Westboro residents and supporters of Westboro Wildcat Days, were remembered during the opening ceremonies. The field was painted with the initals G P and teammate and classmate Jace Champlin spoke to the crowd about Gabe’s love of the game and his motto “Boro for Life.”
Gabe’s wife Annie spread some of his ashes on the field.
