The East Atchison Cross Country Team hosted a 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run Saturday, July 15, 2023, in Tarkio. Over 100 people participated in the event, which began and ended in the TAC parking lot. 

The Walkers, Jessica, Lyla, and Scott, make their way up the hill next to Niedermeyer Park while participating in the 5K. Lyla and Scott also participated in the 1-mile fun run.

Tommi Martin was one of the top 5k finishers, coming in at 11th with a time of 24 minutes.

Dara Whipple was the top finisher in her age group of the 5K.

Jerry Hurt, Fairfax, won first place in the men’s 60+ age group of the 5K. His grandson, Clayton Vernon, is a member of the East Atchison cross country team.

Asher Stepp, a 3rd grader at Tarkio Elementary, not only ran the entire 5K race, finishing in 16th place with a time of 26:22, but he also ran the 1-mile fun run as well.

EA Cross Country team members Brooklyn Wennihan, Bella Bywater, and Gracie Walker handed out water to the runners as they circled around Niedermeyer Park.

Jim Egbert and his daughter, Hailey, came down from Shenandoah, Iowa, to participate in the 5K race. Hailey finished 10th with a time of 23:19, earning a medal, and Jim finished 17th with a time of 26:24, earning a medal.
