Michael Wayne McHugh, the son of Royal and Flora (Barnum) McHugh, was born April 26, 1955, in Moorhead, Iowa. Michael attended Dow City High School, Dow City, Iowa.

On April 19, 1976, Michael was united in marriage to Carol Bartlett. They became the parents of four children, Tanya, April, Garland, and John. They later divorced.

Michael was a farmhand for Fast Farms. In 1993, Michael was employed by American Recycling where he worked until ill health forced retirement.

Michael enjoyed fishing, camping, and bowling. He loved dancing and was an avid recycler. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Michael passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care, Tarkio, Missouri, at the age of 68.

Besides his parents, Michael was preceded in death by brothers, Royal and Deloid McHugh, sister-in-law, Janet McHugh; aunts and uncles, Harrietta Nicholson, Glen Barnum, Susan Simpson, Margaret Stevens, Harry Barnum, and Johnny Barnum; and great-niece, Isabel Gialdini. Survivors include children, Tanya (Scott) Martin, Mound City, Missouri, April (James) Johnson, Maitland, Missouri, Garland McHugh, Maryville, Missouri, and John McHugh, St. Joseph, Missouri; grandchildren, Brittaney, Sadie, Jakub, Rian, Nakiah, Madison, Blythe, and Brandt; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Sandra McHugh, Omaha, Nebraska, Lyle McHugh, Tarkio, Marilyn (Scott) Hintz, Carlisle, Iowa, and Karen (Paul) Riedell, Breda, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Roundy Center, 66 4th Street, Woodbine, Iowa. There is no visitation. Inurnment will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at Woodbine Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Michael McHugh Memorial Fund for headstone expenses.
