August 6, 1948
• Howard Wheatley, who will coach at Tarkio High School next year, has purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Jim McIntosh the home at 906 Walnut Street. The McIntoshes have purchased from J. D. Rankin the 408 Walnut Street property occupied by the Hughes family.
• At present, the City of Tarkio is repairing the building known as the cannery, a building which has been proved valuable for small gatherings at the community park. A part of the building will be partitioned off for the use of the Boy Scouts.
• Dr. Quentin R. Bartz, a Tarkio College graduate, and his coworkers were among those who helped to develop the new drug, chlormycetin. In purifying an extract, they obtained the active material in crystalline form, and they proposed the drug’s name, chloromycetin.
• The body of Ray Dean Cavinee, 31-year-old Tarkio serviceman who went missing in an Alaska river, has been recovered. His mother was informed that Ray drowned, but that all circumstances of the tragedy were not known.
August 9, 1973
• Miss Kenna Maxine Herrick and Roger Lynn Levings were married July 14 at the United Methodist Church in Tarkio. Rev. Byron Gilbreath officiated.
• The Five County Banker’s Association met for their Third Annual Golf Tournament at the Tarkio Golf Club July 25.
• Larry Broermann shot a hole-in-one on a 165-yard par three hole number six with a six iron at the Tarkio Golf Course on Sunday. Larry is a self-taught golfer and has been playing for two years. His triumph was observed by Bill Smith, Gaylord McDonald, and Richard Smith.
• The Burt Bacharach hit musical “Promises, Promises” will open at the Mule Barn Theatre on August 15. The story is of a young executive whose key to success is the key to his one-room apartment.
• Mrs. Diana Larson has been employed as Speech Therapist at the Tarkio R-I School District for the 1973-74 school year. Mrs. Larson has taught in Kansas, Alabama, and West Germany. Her husband is an Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts at Tarkio College. He is also the technical director and designer for the Mule Barn Theatre.

• Registration dates have been set for the 1998-99 school year and the school supply lists are out. School will begin Wednesday, August 19. Elementary teachers are: kindergarten – Lesley Graves and Jayne Martin; first grade – Katherine Cox and Marylyn Wilcox; second grade – Hope Vette and Linda Hall; third grade – Patty Rolofson and Jamie Erwin; fourth grade – Dallas Prather and Nan Stepp; fifth grade – Rita Knierim and Lisa Clement; and sixth grade – Georgia Houghton and Kathy Defenbaugh.
• The City of Tarkio Park Board continues to raise funds for improvements to the playground equipment at Niedermeyer Park in Tarkio. They are now only $2,400 away from the goal.
• C.A.B.A. Tarkio Spirit Squad members are Jordan Masonbrink, Mallory Heits, Molly Whittington, Yvette Davis, Morgan Kemerling, Johnna Hospodka, Heather Hogue, Rachel White, and Morghan Noland.
