• The Long barber and beauty shop is moving this week from one door north of the Ritz Cafe to the West building formerly occupied by Mrs. Lillian Rolf’s beauty shop. The building vacated by the Longs will be occupied by the Oswald & Davis electrical firm.
• Irvin Wagner has leased the service station on the north side of highway No. 275 at the wye between Rock Port and Tarkio. He took charge Monday morning.
• A subscription renewal from former Rock Port resident G.B. Simpson of Gridley, California, brings with it a clipping which details the tremendous packing of peaches done in Gridley by the world’s largest cannery. This season, one million cans of peaches will be turned out each day.
• Gerry Bullerdiek, who came to Atchison County in 1885, passed away at his home in Rock Port Saturday, July 31, at the age of 84. Mr. Bullerdiek learned the painter’s and decorator’s art in Germany (where he lived until age 18) and left his mark on many buildings throughout Atchison and Holt counties and across the line in Iowa.
• A couple just married in Nodaway County and returning home late Sunday afternoon crashed their car three miles east of Tarkio. Their car topped a hill and collided with another, and the car with the marriage party turned over five times after impact. The couple, Mr. and Mrs. Zernie Harold and two companions, Miss Eloise Harmon and Jim Vaughn, suffered injuries but nothing serious.

• Boy Scout Troop 59 of Rock Port won a first place clean sweep award for camp inspection when they attended Camp Geiger in June.
• The Rock Port Legion Baseball Team will be representing the Fourth District Conference in the playoffs for the title of State Legion Champions after defeating Hopkins 17-6 August 1. The playoffs will take place in Liberty and Rock Port.
• At the Atchison-Holt Electric Cooperative’s 35th annual meeting, Bruce Gibbs, the first manager of the cooperative, burned the first note signed by the coop officials in 1938. The note, written for $217,000, was paid in full in January.
• The Atchison County Health Center will have $42,000 in excess or “reserve” funds by December 31. The money may be used for a health center building, but there are no definite plants for either a site or a time for its construction.
• Volunteer children and Neighborhood Youth Corps workers have recently moved all adult nonfiction from the back room to the front and new shelves at the Atchison County Library in Rock Port.

• Some of the flowering shrubs and trees around town must be confused because some early bloomers have sprouted some late summer blossoms.
• The Atchison County Fair Parade was held Saturday, July 25. Grand marshals were Byron and Phyllis Million. Both were 4-H members growing up and became 4-H leaders.
• Bank Midwest donated $2,863 for a new scoreboard for the north ball field at the Rock Port City Park.
• Chats: “Go to the exhibit hall and take in the art, talent, craftmanship, and hours of loving labor that went into each and every fair exhibit.” “There are just two more issues before school starts. Get ready, it is upon us.”
• At the Rock Port Market: 12-16 oz. Farmland assorted sliced bacon, $1.99; and Del Monte premium bananas, 3 lbs. for $1.
