• The greatest adventure thriller of all time, “Stanley & Livingstone,” returns by popular demand to the Fair Theatre Friday and Saturday. The film, with Spencer Tracy, reconstructs the great adventure of the daring young reporter who penetrated the heart of Africa and scored the “scoop” of the century.
• On a corner lot two blocks south of the Baptist Church, Glenn Carson has started the erection of a new residence. Earl Brindle started work on the basement of a new residence Tuesday on a lot just west of the Matt Hopkins home in south Fairfax.
• Miss Norma Hawkins was selected at the Atchison County 4-H Achievement Day held at Tarkio last week to represent Atchison County in the style review to be held at the district 4-H club Achievement Day in St. Joseph, Missouri. Miss Hawkins is a member of the County Liner 4-H Club.
• The Fairfax school and community band will perform a concert at Tarkiesta in Tarkio August 28. The band goes to Skidmore, Missouri, on September 11 to play at the Horse and Pumpkin Show.
• Ed Meek of Grant City, Missouri, has been appointed assistant farm agent of Atchison County. Mr. Meek served during World War II and after his discharge, attended the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, graduating with a B.S. Degree in August of this year.
August 16, 1973
• Mrs. Virginia McMahon and Mrs. Virginia Moore left Tuesday for a month-long trip to the northeast United States and Nova Scotia. They will leave St. Joseph by bus and plan to make several sight-seeing stops enroute to Boston, Massachusetts, where they will join a tour group for a two-week trip to Nova Scotia.
• The Over 60 Club-sponsored bus trip to World’s of Fun will leave from Thiesfield’s Clothing on Thursday, August 23.
• An airplane made a forced landing in a soybean field near Craig August 8. The Beechcraft, piloted by Michael J. Reich, ran out of fuel and came down in a field owned by Everett Rhoades. No one was injured. The three passengers were enroute to North Shores, Michigan, from Ft. Carson, Colorado, where they are stationed with the U.S. Army.

• The old library on the third floor of Fairfax High School has been converted into two new classrooms.
• August Yards of the Month chosen by the Xi Lambda Beta Sorority include: D.A. and Marcia Martin, Jim and Polly McConnell, Doyne and Virginia Swan, and K.R. and Mary Ann Pennel.
• Spud Irvine and Doris Dixon of Fairfax grew enormous Celebrity tomato plants in Doris’ backyard. The plants are over six feet tall and have many nice tomatoes growing on them.
• The Fairfax R-3 School has joined with community members and organizations to implement a landscaping project to finish the construction project and beautify the school.
• The Methodist Men of Fairfax poured a cement sidewalk for John Gilbert at his home in Fairfax this week. John is confined to a wheelchair and this sidewalk will enable him to get back and forth to the house easier.
• “Let’s All Go To The Movies” is the theme for this year’s Fairfax Fair, August 14-16.
