Dr. Rex Bollinger

It’s August, which historically signals the start of a new school year. First, I wish to introduce myself. I am Dr. Rex Bollinger and along with my wife, Michelle, we are excited about the opportunity to serve the community of Rock Port as the superintendent of schools. This is my 18th year as a superintendent, having served in the Doniphan West School district in Northeast Kansas as well as the Prairie View School district in Eastern Kansas. Michelle is a Registered Nurse working locally at Community Hospital-Fairfax in Fairfax, Missouri. We have three grown children. Ian works for Nabholz Construction and will soon deploy with the Kansas National Guard. Tynan serves college campuses as a Fellowship of Catholic University Student Missionary at New Mexico State. Camryn is a recent graduate of Washburn University and is looking for a position in graphic design.

This week, practices have started at the high school for fall sports and our buildings and facilities are looking great thanks to the hard work of our custodians and maintenance personnel. Teachers return on August 16th, while students will return on August 23rd. “Meet Your Teacher Night” will be Monday, August 21, beginning at 5:00 p.m.  At 5:45 p.m. that evening, there will be a junior high athletics meeting for the parents of athletes in grades 6-8. At 6:15 p.m., there will be a 7th grade and 7-12 grades new student orientation in the south gym. Also that night starting at 5:00 p.m. and lasting until 6:15 p.m., the Rock Port Rotary Club will host a Welcome-Back-to-School Picnic in the cafeteria.

With the ongoing construction, the back (west) parking lot will be fenced off for construction purposes. As you know, the bond issue passed last spring and the dome has already been taken down and is in the process of being removed. Construction will continue throughout the year. This will cause a change in procedures from parking to where students are picked up and dropped off. Please be patient. Bus riders will be picked up and dropped off on the east side of the high school gymnasium near the crosswalk that leads to the south side of the east parking lot. Cones will be placed in order to reserve those areas for buses. Parents may pick up directly behind the buses or in the east parking lot. The east parking lot front row will be reserved for staff members for this school year. If an elementary student is to be picked up or dropped off during the day, please enter the south entrance of the west parking lot to proceed to park near the entrance of the elementary school.

We are looking forward to the new school year and having everyone back and achieving fantastic accomplishments. Following the lead of my predecessor I leave you with…GO BIG BLUE!
