• Services were held August 14 at the Fairfax Methodist Church for Pfc. Delbert T. “Ted” Hecker. Ted was killed January 10, 1945, in Luxembourg while fighting with a tank destroyer unit with General Patton’s army. He arrived in England in April of 1944 and three days after D-Day, his unit was sent to France as an anti-tank unit, where it fought its way through France, taking part in some of the major engagements. He was 20 years, three months, and three days old upon his passing.
• The lawsuit against the Tyson-Long company, which was recently filed by Wm. Shineman in circuit court, came up for hearing Tuesday. This suit is the result of the crash of a transport oil truck last April which caused a fire and burned the residence occupied by the Shinemans.
• C.P. Kincannon has the foundation in for a new residence just south of his home in northeast Fairfax. D.A. Price has moved a small house to a lot he recently purchased in northeast Fairfax. The house in which the Price family has been living in on north Broadway will be razed and owner G.F. Bush will be building a new home on the lot.
• The Fairfax senior baseball team played the South Park Lutheran Team of St. Joseph in Fairfax Sunday afternoon. Fairfax won with a score of 11 to 5, scoring eight in one inning.
August 23, 1973
• Mode C. Rogers died at his home in Fairfax August 16 at the age of 57. Mr. Rogers served with the 167th combat engineers in World War II under Gen. George C. Patton, building roads and bridges for the advancing troops. He was awarded three bronze stars for his distinguished service. In 1949, he and his family moved to Fairfax where they operated Rogers Cafe and Motel.
• New families in Fairfax include: Mr. and Mrs. Mel Gibson and daughters from Huxley, Iowa (Mr. Gibson is the new high school principal); Mr. and Mrs. Gary Watson and daughters from Omaha, Nebraska (Mr. Watson is the new hospital administrator); Mr. and Mrs. George Ross and children from Maryville, Missouri (Mr. Ross is the head football coach); and Miss Betty Oliver from Bolckow, Missouri (she is the new third grade teacher).
• Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jones announced an open house for their heating and air conditioning service to be known as Comfort Air. It is located in the Meyers building next to the Fairfax Cleaners. The new store will also offer home and commercial refrigeration service by E. Hafner.

• Fairfax City Marshal Burge has resigned effective August 15. He said that he will sell the equipment that he owns to the city for $100.
• Norman and Fern Simmons were this year’s Fairfax Fair Parade Grand Marshals. After retiring from 35 years of farming in the Milton community, Mr. and Mrs. Simmons purchased the N.F. Dragoo property on Highway 59 and moved to town.
• The Fairfax Kiwanis Club recently restored an advertising sign given to them by Melvin Rogers. The club has added wheels to the sign and have painted it, as well as added the Kiwanis symbol to the top of the sign.
• Miss Fairfax is Kasie Morris, Junior Miss Fairfax is Courtney Sinkhorn, Miss Congeniality is Kara Kemerling, and Little Mr. and Miss Fairfax are Graham Scarbrough and Chelsea Miller.
