Temperatures on July 28 were more than 100 degrees in Humboldt, Nebraska, with a nice breeze as the one respite. Despite the heat, 9-year-old Reece Fischer of Falls City, Nebraska, and his heifer Sadie won Reserve Champion Angus Breeding Heifer at the Richardson County Junior and 4-H Fair.

Jason Biermann of Biermann Angus in Mound City, Missouri, had called Fischer’s father with a potential heifer for Fischer’s 4-H project. Fischer looked at her, negotiated a price on his own and purchased Sadie. A member of the County Clovers 4-H Club for four years, Fischer took 10 projects to the fair, including a farm display, baking projects, photos and a plant in addition to his livestock.

“Reece worked really hard working with his animals and on his projects,” said Chris Fischer, Reece’s father. “He learned how to break his calf and feed her. He’s spent the past three to four months working with his livestock three to four days a week walking, bathing and drying to prepare them.”

In addition to his Reserve Grand Champion Angus Breeding Heifer, Reece also had the Grand Champion Market Steer and Grand Champion Market Barrow.

“Biermann Angus would like to congratulate Reece and Sadie on their outstanding accomplishment at their county fair,” Biermann said. “The hard work and dedication of those kids with their animals is amazing. We’re extremely proud of Reece.”

The granddaughter of C72 and Black Out, Sadie will stay in Reece’s cow herd and calve next year.
