• Specials at the B.P. Hunter Stores included: Kraft velveeta cheese, 2 lb. box, 98¢; smoked jowls, 34¢; Miracle Whip salad dressing, quart jar, 59¢; and Kitty Clover potato chips, 1/2 lb. package, 29¢.
• Dr. Edwin Wilson has received notice of appointment as chief medical examiner of Regional Office 13 of the Veterans Administration in Wichita, Kansas. Dr. Wilson came to Fairfax about two years ago from Kansas City and has enjoyed a good practice while here.
• A funeral service was held for James W. Hutton. James and his wife, Harriet J. Bower Hutton, bought a farm southeast of Fairfax and moved there is 1893. They spent their entire married life on that farm. Mrs. Hutton died in 1928 and Mr. Hutton continued to make his home there until his death.
• In order to assure proper refrigeration at all times, Max Stalcup of the Fairfax Locker Plant has installed a 7 1/2 horse power compressor to replace the smaller one that has been in use at the plant.
• W.F. Ilsley and family returned Saturday from a 17-day trip to the East coast. They drove 4,034 miles through 10 states. Some of the high points of the trip were visiting Lincoln’s tomb, battlefields of Gettysburg, Mount Vernon, Arlington Cemetery, and most of the government buildings in Washington, D.C.

• Mrs. Belinda Musch and Tony, and Mrs. Dean Bolton and Barbara, returned Tuesday from a 15-day tour of Spain. The trip began in Madrid, Spain, and continued to Cordoba, Seville, and Malaga with side trips of interest.
• Kiwanians were treated to a program at Tuesday’s meeting given by James Conley, a former Fairfax resident. He has been with the Missouri Department of Health since his college days. His assignment deals with rest homes and he related the many regulations covering their operation.
• The new youth center at the city park officially opened Friday evening. Rev. Reid Swindler offered prayer to some 40 youth and adults who attended.
• The Harold Clines of Oregon, Missouri, kept up a tradition they started some 11 years ago, that of having babies come in pairs. The twin boy and girl born Sunday at Fairfax Community Hospital is the third set of twins in the family. The twins join siblings 14-year-old Carrie, 11-year-old twins Sondra and Sandra, and six-year-olds Kelly and Shelly.

• Fairfax farmer and Burrus seed dealer Sheldon Davis was honored as outstanding new dealer. Sheldon was also recognized for his extra efforts in planting and harvesting the test plots.
• New students at Fairfax R-3 are Megan Sperry (seventh grader), Whitney Sperry (third grader), and Ashley Wright (second grader). Total enrollment is 198 students. New teachers are Ginger Hall (second grade), Tammie Holcomb (English and Spanish), and Nancy Harrington (math).
• The Fairfax United Methodist Church is planning a trip to Waubonsie State Park for an afternoon of fun and games along with a good old-fashioned picnic.
• Mr. and Mrs. Danny Kemerling and Kara of Fairfax attended the 94th Annual National Convention of National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association in Denver, Colorado. Kara was announced as the third place winner in the Junior Auxiliary’s essay contest in the 15-18 year category.
