The Rock Port R-II Board of Education held a tax rate hearing and regular meeting August 17, 2023, in the board room.

President Regan Griffin called the tax rate hearing to order at 7:00 p.m. Also in attendance were Joanna Burke, Reven Herron, Kayla Sierks, Jared Meyerkorth, Troy Cook, and Afton Schomburg, board members; Superintendent Rex Bollinger, Elementary Principal Steve Waigand, High School Principal Donnie Parsons, Board Secretary Jennifer Welch, and guests Albert Willis, Duke Snider, Jason Brushwood, and Ken Eaton.

The agenda was adopted and Dr. Bollinger reviewed the 2023-2024 budget. He indicated the total tax levy is calculated to be $4.9202, which is unchanged from the prior year, and includes $0.8481 for debt service. The budget was adopted and the 2023-2024 tax rate was set at $4.9202. The tax rate hearing was adjourned.

The regular meeting was called to order at 7:09 p.m.

The agenda was adopted and the minutes of the regular meeting on July 13, 2023, were approved. Dr. Bollinger reviewed the financial information for the month ending July 2023. The transfer of funds, July final check register, the August check register to date and the activity account checks were approved.

During scheduled audience, Veregy gave an update on the building project. Sheena Roup discussed the possibility of the school helping the Rock Port Park Board with a project for a walking trail.

Dr. Waigand and Mr. Parsons gave the elementary and high school reports. Dr. Bollinger presented the monthly program evaluation report on budget and enrollment. There was also a discussion on staff appreciation ideas.

The board proceeded to address several new items of business. Action was taken to approve the DESE ASBR, adopt the Special Education Local Compliance Plan, adopt the Rock Port R-II Reading Plan, approve the DESE district contact personnel, and approve the Upward Bound transportation contract.

Action was taken to re-adopt Board Policy BBFA and re-adopt Board Policy IGBH.

Action was also taken to approve repairs to the fire alarm annunciator panel, approve the 2023-2024 athletic officials pay schedule, approve the investment of funds transfer, approve Pay Application #2 to Veregy, and approve the graduation date change to May 19, 2024.

The board accepted the resignation from Madison McPhillips regarding her home/school liaison contract and her extra duty contracts from high school girls basketball, assistant junior high volleyball and assistant junior high girls track. Mark McMahon was hired for the part-time maintenance/custodian position, and Wendy Hays was hired for the open junior high assistant volleyball coach position.
