East Atchison traveled to King City to take on the Wildkats in their season opener Friday, August 25, 2023. With the temperature being so high the game start time was pushed back to 8:00 p.m.

King City won the toss and elected to receive the ball to start the game. The Wolves’ defense set the tone for the game as they would hold the Wildkats, forcing them to punt the ball deep in their own territory where defensive end Collin Hedlund came up big with the block and defensive lineman Weston Klosek would scoop it up and go 10 yards for the first score of the game. The two point conversion was no good.

King City would show some life on the next possession as they would get two first downs before punting the ball away. The Wolves would run two plays before Sammie Litherbury would take it 44 yards for the second touchdown. This brought the score to 12-0 EA.

EA’s defense would continue to dominate, setting up the next touchdown by Cameron Brooks who caught a quick pitch from quarterback Blake Simmons and would go 66 yards for the touchdown.

On EA’s next possession Owen DeRosier would take an inside handoff to take it 32 yards for the touchdown and the PAT from Simmons to Collin Hedlund was good.

EA’s defense didn’t let up as they held King City, forcing them to punt and sacking the punter on the 11 yard line, giving the Wolves great field position. Quarterback Blake Simmons would take a keeper to the house from 11 yards out. Litherbury’s point after was good, making the score 34-0 East Atchison with 9:22 seconds left in the first half.

King City would see their first touchdown at the end of the first half with an interception that was returned for a touchdown, bringing the halftime score to 34-6.

Linkin Murry would strike first in the second half and would also score the final touchdown of the night. Sam Litherbury would score late in the third quarter with Simmons’ two point conversion. This made the final score 54-6.
