Amie Schleicher, field specialist in livestock, has been with the University of Missouri team for 22 years. Amie is passionate about a variety of extension-related activities, but says she especially “enjoys being part of a land-grant university’s mission to bring research-based information and services to people across the state and beyond, and do so in a way that is welcoming and open to all.”

In her current role as a livestock specialist, Amie offers programs in beef cattle, forages, youth livestock projects, poultry, women in agriculture-focused opportunities, and much more. She also offers workshops in response to issues such as drought. Amie is particularly well-versed in leadership – a skill she believes is important for everyone, even those not in charge, not giving orders, or not at the front of the room.

When asked about the most interesting project she has worked on as a livestock specialist, Amie mentioned the number of changes that have occurred in agriculture including new feed products, regulations, and marketing opportunities during her tenure as an extension specialist. Amie enjoys being able to help producers get the information they need, for their specific situation, especially amidst these changes.
