Rock Port hosted the Stanberry Bulldogs for the home opener Friday, September 1. The Bulldogs came into the contest after a win over Mound City.
To start the game, Dakota Evans took the opening kick-off back for a touchdown, giving the Jays the lead. The two-point conversion was no good, making the score 6-0. The Bulldogs wasted no time answering back on the next kick-off. They converted on the two points, giving them the lead 8-6.
Stanberry outscored the Jays 36 to 20 in the first half. Following half time Rock Port made some adjustments on the defensive side of the ball, not allowing Stanberry to score in the third quarter.
Going into the fourth quarter, the Jays worked to find a way to get into the end zone. They scored twice, but Stanberry managed to score three times, giving them the win with a final score of 52-32 Stanberry.
Rock Port will travel to Stewartsville on Friday, September 8, to play the Stewartsville/Osborn WildCards.
