• A Western-class horse show will be held in Fairfax Wednesday, September 15. There will be quarter horse racing, stock horse class, barrel racing, a cutting contest, jack-pot roping, a pony and rider class, and musical chairs.
• Frank Erwin has purchased the Kelly property, located on South Broadway and has been given possession of the place.
• The County Liner 4-H Club will sponsor a program on the theme “Citizenship for Teenagers” Tuesday, September 21, at the Fairfax School Auditorium. Hon. William C. Cole of St. Joseph, congressman from this Third Missouri district, will be the speaker.
• The Rev. H.M. Parker, Jr., pastor of the Fairfax Presbyterian Church, has been appointed to the faculty of Tarkio College and will be a part-time instructor in the department of ancient languages.
• The population of Mound City is soon to be increased some 600 people when the crew laying the natural gas line from Texas to Michigan moves into that city. The crew will spend several months there.
September 13, 1973
• The Fairfax Garden Club has designated Mr. and Mrs. John Wells as winners of the Lawn of the Month with Mrs. Minnie Thompson being runner-up.
• A nostalgic account of a trip to Yellowstone National Park in a Model T Ford, written by Augusta White and published by her brothers since her death, is now available at the Atchison County public libraries.
• Eleven returning lettermen will lead the rest of the Bulldog football team as they open the 1973 season against the Mound City Panthers Friday on the Fairfax field. The offense will be spearheaded by senior co-captain and quarterback Rick Martin. The other co-captain is Marion Oswald at guard.
• For the first time in more than three scores of existence, we have met our counterpart namewise…another Earl Sims, who with his wife, paused in Fairfax a short time early Tuesday afternoon. The Simses are on vacation from Ohio. Another aspect that adds an unusual angle to the situation is he is also in the printing business. A different middle initial and absence of the final “e” on the first name keeps the names from being identical.
• Ralph Carter bought the blue ribbon Coreidale ram at the Nebraska State Fair last week as a herd sire for his sheep.

• Two new Northwest Missouri Cellular towers located near Watson and Corning, Missouri, went online in July. The cell company also installed a new “voice mail” system for subscribers.
• The Fairfax Baptist Church is hosting a Turning Point Crusade September 13-16 with Evangelist Clyde Chiles.
• A birthday party will be held September 20 to honor Marie Amthor on her 100th birthday. Marie was born September 21, 1898, and has lived on a farm west of Tarkio since the early 1930s when she and her husband, Harry, moved there from Rock Port.
• Elsie O’Riley of Fairfax was welcomed back to the Fairfax R-3 School District as an elementary aide thanks to the Northwest Missouri Area Agency on Aging’s Senior Community Service Employment Program.
