September 17, 1948
• Approximately 200 American Legion and Auxiliary members and guests attended the installation meeting and supper held at the new memorial building here Monday night. Lester Morton was named Commander of the Legion.
• A busy summer on the Tarkio College campus has brought forth some fine results from little fixings to many new additions. The track was widened and enlarged to be a full quarter of a mile. The street from the campus to the coop was oiled. The bleachers were painted and new sidewalks have been put in from David Rankin Hall to the power plant. An addition of two stories is also being added to Marshall Hall.
• Armies of women workers have been busy this week cleaning and painting the Presbyterian Church in readiness for the fall Presbytery.
• A sudden blaze early yesterday from the motor of an International K-11 truck owned by J.N.M. Youel threatened nearby oil tanks, but was quickly put out by a fire extinguisher.
• A group of 40 gridders, including 17 lettermen, have reported to Tarkio College Owls Head Coach Harold Kamm, hoping for a good season of football.
September 20, 1973
• Twenty illegal aliens from Mexico were turned over to the U.S. Department of Immigration Monday night after their apprehension near Rock Port. Cpl. F.C. Kling and Troopers Ed Lane and John Remick of the Missouri State Highway Patrol took the men, nine of whom were found to be transported in the trunks of two cars, following a routine spot check.
• A total of 585 students began classes September 10 at Tarkio College. Of the total, 315 are returning and 270 are new. Students come from 35 states, as well as a dozen other nations.
• Services were held September 19 in Wenham, Massachusetts, for Dr. Addison H. Leitch. Dr. Leitch served as assistant to the president and distinguished professor of philosophy and religion at Tarkio College until 1969. He had received his Ph.D. at Cambridge University in England.
• Tarkio College has opened a new arts and crafts center available to students and the community, located in the basement of Brown Gym. A kiln, electric pottery wheels, a glass melting furnace, and facilities for ceramics and glass blowing are now in operation.

• The Northwest Missouri Regional Solid Waste Management District, in cooperation with the effort of Atchison County, held a waste tire collection September 11 and 12 at the old Atchison County landfill. Approximately 1,252 passenger waste tires, 90 semi-truck tires, and 94 rear tractor tires were collected.
• New playground equipment was installed at Niedermeyer Park in Tarkio. A group of 44 adults and youth worked up to eight hours on Saturday assembling the equipment.
• A 1989 Mitsubishi van caught fire September 9. Two Tarkio Volunteer Fire Department trucks and four firemen responded to the scene, but the engine compartment was totally engulfed in flames when they arrived.
• Brothers Mike and Rodney Shaw entered their semi-trucks in the 1984-1993 division of a truck show August 29 in Graham, Missouri. Mike’s truck placed first and Rodney’s placed second.
