A two-vehicle crash occurred on I-29 September 15, 2023, leaving one driver with injuries. The wreck took place when a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Kenneth M. Sangren, 82, of Eagan, Minnesota, was travelling down the southbound on-ramp to the interstate. A 2024 Freightliner Cascadia, driven by Jeffrey L. Bowen, 49, of Omaha, Nebraska, was travelling southbound on I-29. The Jeep travelled into the path of the Freightliner and the front of the Freightliner struck the driver’s side of the Jeep. The Freightliner came to a controlled stop in the driving lane. The Jeep stopped in the driving lane facing east.
Sangren, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri, by an Atchison-Holt ambulance. Bowen, who was wearing a seat belt, did not report any injuries.
The Jeep was totaled and towed from the scene by Double M Towing. The Freightliner sustained moderate damage and was also towed by Double M Towing.
The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper J.D. Schmedding, who was assisted by the Rock Port Police Department, Atchison County Sheriff’s Office, and Rock Port Fire Department.
