• Wright Motor Co. is furnishing the Rock Port schools a dual control Chevrolet for use in driver instruction as part of the school’s curriculum. The car is equipped with a double set of clutch and brake pedals so that the instructor, Superintendent G. D. Morrison, can at any time throw the car out of gear and apply the brakes while the student is at the wheel.
• The cake sale and auction held by the Rock Port High School band on Main Street Saturday afternoon netted $261. Cliff Fentiman acted as auctioneer and Otto Volkmann was master of ceremonies. Between 50 and 60 cakes were donated to the cause.
• In a transaction which was consummated early this week, the controlling interest in the Citizens Bank of Atchison County passed from the hands of F. S. Graham and his son-in-law, Chas. E. Bell, to those of C. H. Goppert, who comes to Rock Port from Dodson, Missouri.

• Weight station operations on I-29 in Atchison County, north of Rock Port, began Wednesday. The new stations cost $211,007. Bernard O’Laughlin is the supervisor of the station, overseeing six weight operators. The crew will be working daylight hours only until the highway department installs lighting of the area.
• Richard Tiemeyer, son of Mrs. Louise Tiemeyer of Rock Port, was admitted to the Missouri Bar Association during a ceremony held before the Missouri Supreme Court in Jefferson City September 29. Tiemeyer is a Rock Port High School graduate and is residing in Columbia.
• Pastor Herbert N. Johnson, Jr. has been appointed minister of the Lutheran Church in Rock Port, replacing retiring Pastor Harvey Barnhardt. Pastor Herbert and his wife, Nancy, have three children, Kristine 13, Carrie 9, and Martin 5.
• Atchison-Holt Electric Cooperative board officials recently signed a loan document that makes them part owner of a 600,000 kw generating plant at New Madrid, Missouri. Atchison-Holt, along with 42 other electric cooperatives, six generation and transmission cooperatives and associated electric cooperative in Springfield, are supplying up to $240 million for construction of the new plant and related facilities.

• Cindi Gayler was crowned queen and Bryce Bunton was crowned king at the Rock Port Blue Jays’ Homecoming football game against South Harrison Friday, September 18. Crownbearers were Tabor Riebesell and Trey Garst.
• Rock Port Volunteer Firemen responded to a hay fire Thursday, September 22. Approximately 150 bales of hay had ignited in an implement building. Ken Lucas, owner of the hay, and Mike McKenney used tractors to remove the hay from the building and the firemen extinguished the blaze.
• Thirty anglers loaded into 11 boats and launched from the Langdon boat dock September 26 to cast off the 13th annual Operation Jason Fishing Derby. The event began in 1985 with funds going to families with children who have special needs, to help pay for medical costs. Approximately $50,000 has been raised since it began. This year’s participants reeled in a catch of 185.5 pounds. One hundred and nine and one-half of those pounds were caught by master fishermen Jerry Clemens and his son, Randy.
