Rowena Arcelia (Jones) Broermann, 91, of Tarkio, Missouri, passed away at Shenandoah Medical Center, Shenandoah, Iowa, on October 1, 2023. She was born November 10, 1931, in Fairfax, Missouri, to Charles and Ella (Green) Jones. She attended Centerview School through 8th grade and was a 1949 graduate of Tarkio High School.
Rowena was married to Charles Duane Broermann on June 20, 1954, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro, Missouri. Rowena and Duane spent their lives together farming in the Westboro Corner area and they became the parents of one son, Don.
Rowena volunteered with Cancer Society, was a member of The Red Hatters, a 4-H leader, and enjoyed shopping, gardening, traveling, St. John’s Church activities, gathering with family and friends, and spoiling her grandsons.
Rowena was employed by Manley’s Popcorn Elevator, Hy-Vee Food Store and Fleshers Pharmacy, all of Tarkio during her life. After retiring, she enjoyed talking with customers as she handed out merchandise samples in local stores.
Rowena was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; parents, Charles and Ella Jones; brothers, Dale Jones, Charles “Junior” Jones, and Maurice Jones; and sisters, Betty Harris, Eva McGuire, Melvina “Toots” Mingus, Cleta Hargus, and Carrol Linthicum.
She leaves behind her son, Don, and daughter-in-law, Mitzi Broermann, of Jefferson City, Missouri; grandsons, Tyler Broermann of Jefferson City and Eric and wife, Rachel Runde, of Kansas City, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Westboro. Interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Westboro. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service in the church basement. Open visitation began Tuesday at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
