The Mound City Panthers came to town on Friday night to play the Rock Port Blue Jays in their seventh game of the season. Both teams entered the game with a 2 and 4 record.

Rock Port would receive to start the game and return man Dakota Evans would give the Jays good field position to start the game on their own 30 yard line. On the first play from the line of scrimmage, quarterback Cade Makings double faked the handoff and kept it to go 50 yards for a touchdown. This would set the tone for the game for Rock Port. Mound City would score two possessions later to tie the game at 6 to 6 and that is how the first quarter would end.

To start the second quarter, Makings would take the ball off the left side to find the corner of the end zone for his second score of the night. Corbyn Jakub caught a pass from Makings for the two point conversion, bringing the score to 14-6. Following the kick-off, Mound City would fumble the hand-off from quarterback Kane Derr to running back Nick Ivey and Rock Port would recover. This would set Makings up to score his third TD of the night from 10 yards out and the two point conversion. This would give Rock Port a 22-6 lead. The Jays’ defense would come up big, holding the Panthers to another four plays and out for their offense. The Jays would take over with the ball at mid-field. Following a series of 15 plays with some penalties, quarterback Cade Makings would find the end zone from five yards out and his two point conversion was good. With the clock winding down to halftime, Mound City would find some success in moving the ball with a 40 yard pass, giving the Panthers the ball at the 10 yard line setting up their next score. That would wrap up the first half with Rock Port leading 30 to 12.

Coming out of halftime, Mound City would strike first, taking the ball 65 yards down the field and punching it in. With the two point conversion, the Panthers would bring the score to 30-20. Rock Port would cover the squib kick on the 30 yard line for their first possession of the second half. On a series of runs by Dakota Evans and passes to Corbyn Jakub and Jack Meyerkorth, the Jays would move the ball to the five yard line where it would set Makings up for his fifth TD of the night. With Makings’ two point conversion the Jays’ lead was 38 to 20.

Mound City would go to the air to find success moving the ball as they would put another eight points on the board. Following an onside kick, the Jays would start on their own 30 and move the ball to the 16 yard line before Dakota Evans would take a hand-off up the middle to six points. Makings would find Meyerkorth for the two point conversion. The third quarter would end with Rock Port leading 46-28.

The Jays’ defense would get things going in the fourth quarter as defensive back Dakota Evans would intercept a pass and return it to the two yard line, setting up Cade Makings to score his sixth touchdown of the evening on a keeper. Evans would add two points to make the score 54-28. With just over five minutes left in the game, quarterback Cade Makings would find the end zone for six and capped off the night with his final score on the two point conversion. The Panthers would also score once more to make the final score 62-34.

Rock Port will be traveling to Tarkio this Friday, October 13, to take on the EA Wolves.
