October 22, 1948
• Ed Kessinger of El Dorado, Kansas, has purchased the printing plant of the Holt County Democrat at Mound City and will move the plant to Craig next week, where he will revive the Craig Leader. Craig has been without a newspaper for several years and its business firms have realized the need of a newspaper since the suspension of the Craig Tribune.
• “Superman,” a 15-chapter serial based on the adventure feature appearing in daily and Sunday newspapers and on a radio network broadcast, will be shown at the Fair Theatre weekly starting Wednesday and Thursday, October 27 and 28.
• Willis Grush was a patient at a St. Joseph hospital from Tuesday to Saturday of last week for treatment of a painful injury suffered when the crank of the motor of a grain elevator struck him in the mouth. His jawbone was broken, the bone above his upper teeth shattered, and some teeth were knocked out.
October 25, 1973
• The Fairfax Bulldogs lost their homecoming football game to the Rock Port Blue Jays 3-7 in a hard-hitting defensive struggle. Homecoming royalty crowned were Queen Terry Graves and King Marion Oswald.
• Debbie, Terry, and Doug Miller won “Best of Show” last week in an Artex showing at the Tarkio Community Building with a painting they had done as a family project. Greg Young won second place in the youth division.
• Thirty-two Fairfax Community Betterment Boosters attended a banquet in Jefferson City to receive three top awards, including a first-place prize of $700. Bob Alldredge was awarded a leadership trophy and the community received a Beckoning Trails plaque for extensive plantings done in the city park and Fair Haven housing complex.
• The Holman Publishing Company has come out with a new Bible so attractive that, believe it or not, it was stolen from The Book Nook in Fairfax. This little gem is the King James Version bound in top grade suede leather, retailing at $11.95. It snaps shut with a button flap binding. We are challenging the person to return the Bible and praying he/she is reading and benefiting from it.
• The annual 60 Plus Banquet at the Fairfax Baptist Church was enjoyed by 39 guests Saturday evening, October 20. Miss Beulah Hunter was honored for her contributions over the years to the happiness and well-being of her fellow citizens. Guests were entertained by The Gospel Associates, a quartet from Craig, Missouri.

• Members of the Fairfax Wolverine 4-H Club went to the Harvest Valley pumpkin patch two miles north of Shenandoah, Iowa, October 11. They enjoyed mule-drawn and tractor-driven wagon rides, picking out pumpkins, a timber trail, and a two-acre corn maze.
• The Tri Star Optimist International Punt, Pass, and Kick competition was held Sunday, October 18, at Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, Missouri. Mark Ball of Fairfax won the 11-year-old category with a total score of 219. Dustin Ross of Fairfax won the 8-year-old division with a total score of 121.
• The Xi Lamda Beta Sorority’s October Yards of the Month selections included: Benne and Melissa Rogers, David and Jennifer Scarbrough, Barry and Lyn Simmons, and Rose Adamson.
• Julie Koop of Fairfax recently attended a Peels Hair Show in Omaha, Nebraska. While there, she interviewed with a lady from Matrix Hair Color to become an educator for the Matrix Company. She was selected to become an Associate Educator for Matrix.
